Michael Stipe and Jon Bon Jovi Perform R.E.M. at Harris Rally

On Sunday, renowned musicians Michael Stipe and Jon Bon Jovi came together for a powerful performance at a Democratic get-out-the-vote rally held in Atlanta. They delivered a stirring rendition of the iconic R.E.M. song, “The One I Love,” captivating the audience with their passionate delivery and commitment to civic engagement.

You can watch the electrifying performance below and experience the energy firsthand.

This collaborative effort took place during the When We Vote We Win rally at the Cobb Galleria Centre, aimed at rallying support for Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris. Notable figures in attendance included her running mate, Gov. Tim Walz from Minnesota, along with her husband, Doug Emhoff. During the performance, Stipe took the lead with heartfelt vocals on “The One I Love,” while Bon Jovi skillfully played the acoustic guitar. The duo was joined by the talented Americana group The War and Treaty. Additionally, Bon Jovi treated the audience to two of his own hits: “The People’s House” from his latest album Forever, and the legendary anthem “Livin’ on a Prayer” from Slippery When Wet.

Stipe closed out his impressive three-song set with “The One I Love,” which followed his collaboration with Big Red Machine on “No Time for Love Like Now,” and the R.E.M. classic “Driver 8,” a song he noted is a favorite of Gov. Walz. In a spirited moment, Stipe humorously took a jab at former president Donald Trump’s use of the Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.” at his rallies, leading the crowd in a chant of, “It’s fun to get out the V-O-T-E.”

Michael Stipe Urges Georgians to Mobilize Their Communities for Voting

Stipe has consistently expressed his unwavering support for Kamala Harris, and last month he revived the performance of “The One I Love” for the first time since 2008 at a Harris-Walz get-out-the-vote rally in Pittsburgh, where he was accompanied by the talented Jason Isbell. At the recent rally, Stipe reiterated the crucial importance of participating in the electoral process as Election Day approaches.

“Thank you for being here and thank you all for voting, or getting ready to vote,” he proclaimed passionately. “I want to encourage everyone in Georgia because we know what it means. We’ve experienced this before. We understand the significance of mobilizing every individual in your community, whether it’s through your church, your local skate club, or any other group. Get out there, engage with them, and ensure they cast their votes.”
