The Lighthouse: Stevie Nicks Delivers Women’s Rights Anthem on Kimmel
Stevie Nicks has delivered an electrifying live rendition of her latest single, “The Lighthouse”, during her captivating appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Election Day eve. This performance not only showcased her remarkable vocal prowess but also highlighted her commitment to pressing social issues, making it a memorable moment for fans and viewers alike.
On Monday (Nov. 4), the legendary Fleetwood Mac frontwoman took to the stage, where host Jimmy Kimmel introduced the song as an empowering anthem for women’s rights. Nicks’ powerful delivery was accentuated by dramatic visuals of thunder and lightning, creating an unforgettable atmosphere that resonated deeply with the audience and underlined the song’s poignant message.
Nicks shared on Instagram that she composed this significant song shortly after the overturning of Roe v. Wade, a pivotal moment that galvanized many into action. She reflected on how swiftly people began to ask, “What can we, as a collective force, do about this?” For Nicks, the answer was clear: to channel her feelings and thoughts into a powerful musical statement that would resonate with listeners and inspire change.
Elaborating on her creative process, Nicks revealed, “It took a while because I was on the road. Then one morning, while watching the news, a particular newscaster spoke in a way that felt personal, as if she were addressing me directly regarding the implications of losing Roe v. Wade. The very next morning, I felt compelled to write the song and recorded it that night. This all happened on September 6, 2022. Since then, I’ve been refining it, believing this might be the most important contribution I could make—to advocate for the rights of women across the United States, their daughters, granddaughters, and the men who support them.”
“This is an anthem,” Nicks emphasized, highlighting the significance of her new single in the current social climate.
Following its release, “The Lighthouse” has ascended to impressive heights, peaking at No. 2 on the Rock Digital Song Sales chart. It was also celebrated as the Favorite New Music on September 29, underlining its impact and the strong resonance it has with audiences.
On October 12, Nicks made a triumphant return to Saturday Night Live, marking her first performance on the iconic NBC sketch comedy show in 41 years, during an episode hosted by Ariana Grande. This momentous return was highly anticipated by fans and showcased her enduring talent and relevance in the music industry.
During her appearance, Nicks captivated audiences with performances of both “The Lighthouse” and her classic hit “Edge of Seventeen,” the latter of which had reached No. 11 on the Hot 100 chart upon its release in 1982, further establishing her legacy as a timeless artist.
