Tequila Worth $1 Million Stolen from Sammy Hagar and Guy Fieri
Sammy Hagar and Guy Fieri are currently navigating a significant challenge after a shocking incident involving the hijacking of two trucks from their joint venture, Santo tequila. The unfortunate event resulted in the loss of over $1 million worth of premium tequila products, including various types like blanco, reposado, and extra añejo. This particular variety, known for its luxurious flavor and aging process, carries the highest price point, making its theft particularly devastating. Reports indicate that the robbery occurred in Laredo, Texas, shortly after the trucks had crossed the border from Mexico, highlighting potential vulnerabilities in the logistics of transporting high-value goods.
“It appears this was an organized crime effort where the trucks were illegally double brokered to different carriers who transferred the product to their trucks,” explained a representative for Hagar in a statement to Fox News. This revelation underscores the complexity and risk involved in the tequila distribution process, especially for emerging brands trying to establish themselves in a crowded marketplace.

“For a growing company like Santo, it’s really a shame for something like this to happen in the middle of our strongest year to date and right before the holidays!” Hagar expressed in a heartfelt statement. “Anyone that knows business understands that this is a huge setback for any company in a fiercely competitive market. But Guy and I will overcome this challenge. Most importantly, we are relieved that no one was harmed during this criminal act.” Their resilience reflects the spirit of entrepreneurship, even in the face of adversity.
Hagar and Fieri joined forces to launch Santo tequila in 2019, bringing together their passion for quality spirits. Prior to this venture, Hagar achieved immense success with his Cabo Wabo tequila brand, which he sold in 2007, setting a high standard for his current project. The synergy between Hagar’s musical fame and Fieri’s culinary prowess has created a unique brand identity that resonates with consumers.
Guy Fieri Describes the Robbery Experience as ‘Like a Movie’
In a candid interview with People Magazine, Fieri revealed that he and Hagar were informed of the theft on November 14. “We’ve worked so hard,” he lamented. “This is our best year we’ve ever had with Santo. We just had all this positive momentum, and now whatever’s left on the shelf is all people are going to get.” Fieri’s comments highlight the emotional investment and dedication they have put into growing their brand, making the loss even more poignant.
When contemplating the motives behind the robbery, Fieri suggested that “someone could be trying to break the momentum” that Santo has built. Although it appears unlikely that the stolen tequila will be recovered, Fieri has taken proactive measures by offering a $10,000 reward for the return of the extra añejo, which is particularly precious due to its lengthy aging process of four years. This determination reflects the commitment to their craft and the value they place on their products.
“It’s like a movie,” Fieri remarked regarding the hijacking, expressing disbelief at the surreal nature of the situation. “I never in a million years thought this would happen, but it’s real.” His words capture the shock and dismay felt by both partners as they confront the reality of this criminal act.
