Mark your calendars for a special celebration on Friday, November 22, at 10 PM EST, as Ultimate Classic Rock Nights pays tribute to this iconic album. During this broadcast, we will reflect on Vitalogy with insights from Brett Eliason, a longtime associate of Pearl Jam. Having joined the band on July 4, 1991, just before the release of their debut album Ten, Eliason witnessed firsthand their remarkable journey to global recognition and stardom.
Throughout 1994, Pearl Jam delivered a series of unforgettable performances while touring in support of their previous album, Vs., which had been released the year before. A standout concert took place in April at the Orpheum in Boston, where the setlist was carefully curated by Eliason and the band’s team. That same month, they delivered a legendary performance at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia, which was broadcast nationally on various radio stations across the United States. Even as they promoted Vs. on tour, the band was actively writing, recording, and testing new material that would eventually comprise the essence of Vitalogy. Tracks that would become fan favorites, such as “Better Man,” “Not for You,” and “Immortality,” began to make their way into live performances during the Vs. tour.

Brett Eliason recalls, “Kelly Curtis, their manager, often encouraged the band to embark on a brief tour before entering the studio to record an album. This approach allowed them to test their new material live, refine it, and harness the raw energy of live performances. The recording of Vitalogy was heavily influenced by this methodology, as the band spent considerable time playing together in the studio, creating an authentic and dynamic atmosphere. This practice not only enriched the recording process but also added an exciting dimension to the final product, reflecting the genuine spirit of their live shows.”
