“It’s not that we fully understood the implications of adoption at such a young age,” he continued. “I was six, and Kate was twelve, and while we didn’t grasp the depth of the situation, we instinctively felt that we didn’t need a formal adoption. The love and support we received from him were already evident and more than enough for us.”
