Snoop Dogg Stars in Luc Besson’s Sci-Fi Film
Prepare for an unexpected cinematic experience as Snoop Dogg takes on the lead role in The Last Man, an exciting original sci-fi film crafted by the visionary Luc Besson. This collaboration marks a significant moment in the entertainment industry, merging the unique styles of both artists. While at first glance this pairing may appear unconventional, it’s important to note that Dogg and Besson have a history of collaboration, having previously worked together on the animated film Arthur and the Minimoys, which debuted nearly two decades ago. Fans of both the rapper and the director can look forward to a thrilling integration of their creative talents.
According to a report from Variety, details surrounding the storyline of The Last Man remain largely undisclosed, adding an air of mystery and excitement to its release. It has been hinted that this post-apocalyptic narrative draws inspiration from classic films such as The Planet of the Apes. There are also speculations that the film may have thematic connections to Dogg’s earlier hit, Last Man Standing, which was released in 2009. Besson expressed his enthusiasm for working with Dogg again, stating, “I’ve been a big fan of Snoop Dogg’s music ever since ‘Who Am I.’ We first met 20 years ago, and we’ve always wanted to collaborate again, and this project finally allows us to do just that.”
Dogg shared his excitement, saying, “Ever since I’ve seen The Professional, I’ve always wanted Luc to direct a full movie for me. Now, we have the chance for him to write and direct a film that I am starring in.” Not only will Snoop Dogg take center stage in The Last Man, but he will also play a crucial role in its production alongside Sara Ramaker through their own company, Death Row Pictures. Meanwhile, Luc Besson and Virginie Besson-Silla will contribute to the production efforts under the banner of EuropaCorp. Filming is set to commence in 2025, which has fans eagerly anticipating what this dynamic duo will create.
Looking ahead, Besson is preparing to tackle gothic horror with his upcoming project, Dracula: A Love Story, which is an adaptation of Bram Stoker’s iconic novel. Besson remarked, “It’s a totally romantic approach. There’s a romantic side in Bram Stoker’s book that hasn’t been explored much. It’s a love story about a man who waits 400 years for the reincarnation of his wife, which captures the true essence of the narrative—waiting an eternity for the return of love.” The film features Caleb Landry Jones in the role of Dracula, alongside talented actors Christoph Waltz, Matilda De Angelis, and Zoë Bleu Sidel, promising to bring a fresh perspective to a timeless tale.
