Alleged Reunion of Nevermore Sparks Controversy Over Absence
Exciting news is on the horizon as the iconic band Nevermore is set to reunite in 2025. However, not all members are on board with this comeback. Founding bassist Jim Shepherd has publicly expressed his dissatisfaction, labeling the situation as “disrespectful” due to the lack of communication regarding the “alleged” reunion. Shepherd’s concerns highlight the complexities involved in band dynamics and the importance of maintaining respect among founding members.
On December 27, guitarist Jeff Loomis and drummer Van Williams ignited excitement among fans by sharing a teaser video on their social media accounts. This announcement hinted at the revival of the legendary progressive metal band Nevermore, which had been dormant since their disbandment in 2011. The teaser has left many fans eagerly anticipating what this reunion might entail.
After the unfortunate passing of lead singer Warrel Dane in 2017, many assumed that Nevermore would never perform together again. However, the recent activity of Sanctuary, the precursor band featuring both Dane and Shepherd, has led some to speculate about the potential for a Nevermore reunion in the future. This development raises questions about the legacy and continuity of the band.
Shepherd, who was part of Sanctuary’s reunion in 2010 but left in 2015, expressed his dismay through a Facebook post shared by his wife, Priscila. She emphasized that Jim was not consulted about the apparent plans for a 2025 reunion, revealing a sense of betrayal among founding members. This situation underscores the challenges of band reunions, particularly when they involve members who have played a pivotal role in shaping the band’s identity.
The couple is currently uncertain about the specifics of this reunion and are “waiting for clarification on this alleged project.” This ambiguity adds to the tension surrounding the situation and raises further questions about the intentions of Loomis and Williams.

Since I have been receiving a few messages from Nevermore fans regarding a post Van Williams made on social media, I feel I need to respond to you with an update.
James has never been contacted about Van’s plans with Jeff using the Nevermore name. I am sorry you think James is involved.
We do not know about their plans, and it is completely disrespectful of them to use the name NEVERMORE without consulting Jim Shepherd, as he is one of the founders of the band.
We are waiting for clarification on this alleged project and will proceed from there, whether or not clarification comes from them.No further comment for now. Thank you.

Unpacking the 2025 Nevermore Reunion Announcement
Both Loomis and Williams, who were integral to every Nevermore album, shared a teaser trailer video that contained intriguing phrases like “resurrecting the dream” and “a new chapter rises 2025.” This video showcases various Nevermore album covers, creating a nostalgic atmosphere before hinting at the band’s potential return next year, fueling speculation and excitement among fans.
The progressive metal band Nevermore released a total of seven albums, starting with their self-titled debut in 1995 and culminating with 2010’s The Obsidian Conspiracy. Known for their exceptional technical abilities and the unique vocal style of Warrel Dane, Nevermore pushed the boundaries of their genre and established themselves as a formidable force in the metal scene throughout the 2000s.
After reuniting Sanctuary in 2010, Dane continued to create music, releasing the album The Year the Sun Died in 2014 before his untimely passing. His legacy lives on through his work, including the posthumous release of his second solo album, Shadow Work, in 2018.
Meanwhile, Loomis has kept busy with his solo career and was a member of Arch Enemy from 2014 until 2023, further solidifying his status in the metal community. Williams, on the other hand, has been actively drumming for the progressive metal band Ghost Ship Octavius, who have released two albums, showcasing his talent and versatility as a musician.
