Bob Mould’s New Album ‘Here We Go Crazy’ Coming Soon
After a significant hiatus of over four years since his last album, the iconic alternative rock musician Bob Mould has excitingly announced the upcoming release of his latest record, Here We Go Crazy. This new album marks a notable addition to his extensive discography, showcasing his enduring talent and creativity in the music industry.
Slated for release on March 7, Here We Go Crazy will be the 15th solo album from the prolific artist, known for his influential roles in Hüsker Dü and Sugar. The record was produced by Mould himself at Electrical Audio in Chicago during early 2024, with mixing handled by his longtime collaborator, Beau Sorenson. Alongside this announcement, a captivating music video directed by Gus Black for the title track has also been unveiled, generating buzz and anticipation among fans.
“I’ve been immersing myself in the stunning landscapes of the Southern California desert over the past few years, and the music video was shot in this breathtaking environment,” Mould shared in a statement. “The chilly wilderness atop a mountain, with expansive vistas stretching below the hills, creates a perfect backdrop for escape from life’s routine. The phrase ‘going crazy’ can embody a multitude of experiences. It captures the joy of letting go, the anxiety of an uncertain future, and the profound silence found in solitude.”
“On the surface, this album presents a collection of straightforward guitar pop songs. I’m honing my fundamental sound and style through a lens of simplicity, brevity, and clarity,” Mould elaborated. “Yet beneath the surface, a rich tapestry of themes emerges, contrasting ideas such as control versus chaos, hypervigilance against helplessness, and the complexities of uncertainty juxtaposed with the warmth of unconditional love.”
Interestingly, Mould also chose to share a candid follow-up statement via social media, where he demystified the typical jargon often found in press releases. This approach reflects his desire to connect more authentically with his audience.
“In the ‘Hullabaloo Speak’ of press releases, I discuss refining my core sound,” he explained. “In more relatable terms, I aim to give the audience what they want. Over the last three years, I’ve traveled extensively, performing these new songs and engaging with many fans after my solo shows. This experience has given me valuable insights into what resonates with you in my work.”
“This album features loud guitars, catchy melodies, and the familiar team of musicians (Jon, Jason, Beau) that you know and love. It offers an intimate glimpse into my current perspectives on life, love, and the daily challenges we face as we navigate through the complexities of the world. Ultimately, it’s a quintessential Bob Mould album,” he stated.
The release of Here We Go Crazy will be complemented by an extensive 26-date U.S. tour spanning April and May. This tour will feature Mould performing alongside his longtime bandmates, Jon Wurster and Jason Narducy, delivering live renditions of his new material and fan favorites alike.
