Bobby was forced to confront the most devastating tragedy of his life, which led him to feel overwhelmed with guilt to the point where he decided to resign from his position at the 118. The beginning of Season 8 finds Bobby exploring new avenues, working as a firefighting consultant for a TV show titled Hotshots.

The narrative has since unfolded to reintroduce Bobby at the 118, with Vincent Gerrard (Brian Thompson) taking over his spot and joining Hotshots. Initially, it seemed like the Hotshots storyline had concluded, but the latest episode of 9-1-1, aptly titled “Hotshots,” revives this intriguing show-within-a-show concept. Central to this storyline is Hotshots‘ leading actor, Brad Torrence (Callum Blue), who is determined to persuade Bobby to return to Hotshots. This plot twist reveals an entirely fresh perspective on Bobby, making it an engaging watch for audiences.

During a tense moment on set when Brad endangers a stunt double, the 118 team is called into action. In an attempt to secure Bobby’s return to Hotshots at Gerrard’s expense, Brad goes directly over Bobby’s head, prompting Bobby to invite him out for dinner in an effort to persuade him to reconsider. It’s here that 9-1-1 introduces a twist that is entertaining, albeit somewhat predictable. Brad, previously depicted as self-absorbed yet generally well-meaning, surprises Bobby during their dinner with an outburst over a single olive, showcasing his volatile nature.

The dinner begins with Bobby advocating for Gerrard to remain involved with Hotshots. Just as Bobby informs Brad that he cannot leave the 118, their waitress arrives with drinks. In a shocking display, Brad launches into a tirade against the waitress for presenting him with four olives instead of three, despite her kind intentions. Encouraged by Bobby to retrieve the extra olive, Brad’s reaction escalates when he discovers a pitted olive, resulting in him screaming in the middle of the restaurant, much to the astonishment of onlookers.

“Hotshots” Showcases Bobby Nash’s Unseen Strengths

Brad’s outrageous behavior leads the waitress to flee in tears, pushing Bobby to his breaking point. Following several attempts to reason with Brad and convince him to deescalate the situation, Bobby firmly asserts that Brad owes the waitress an apology, labeling him an entitled man-child. When Brad defiantly responds with, “Or what?” Bobby retorts, “Or I’m gonna kick your blimey ass!” This unexpected display of assertiveness reveals a side of Bobby that 9-1-1 has rarely shown before. Typically, Bobby embodies calmness and rationality, utilizing his words to resolve conflicts, making this moment of aggression particularly striking.

Nonetheless, this reaction is not entirely out of character for Bobby. Bobby has always been a protector—both as a firefighter and in his personal life. Witnessing a service worker being mistreated ignites a protective instinct in him, prompting him to intervene, even if his method is unexpectedly humorous. The following day, Buck (Oliver Stark), Eddie (Ryan Guzman), and Hen (Aisha Hinds) react with amusement at work when they see the viral video of Bobby’s confrontation. Their delight is evident, with Eddie humorously suggesting that the footage might be a deepfake, highlighting the episode’s comedic elements as Bobby stands up for what is right.

However, this isn’t the last we see of Brad Torrence in 9-1-1. The day after the dinner debacle, he arrives at the 118 to express gratitude to Bobby for his “truth enema,” claiming that Bobby’s candidness eliminated his sense of entitlement. Brad expresses a desire to shadow Bobby, a decision permitted by the chief. Given the unpredictable nature of 9-1-1, this new dynamic promises to bring humor and chaos, especially with the looming midseason finale disaster on the horizon. Regardless, Captain Bobby Nash is poised to handle whatever challenges come his way.
