Dark Side and Wizard of Oz Rumors: David Gilmour Speaks
Many years ago, a fascinating phenomenon was uncovered: when the iconic album The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd is played simultaneously with the classic 1939 film The Wizard of Oz, they create an astonishing synchronization that captivates audiences. This intriguing synchronicity occurs when both are initiated at precisely the right moment, leading to a unique and almost mystical experience for those who partake in it.
This extraordinary theory has been dubbed “The Dark Side of the Rainbow.” Despite its popularity, members of Pink Floyd and their production team have consistently described the phenomenon as mere coincidence. Recently, during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, guitarist David Gilmour reiterated this notion.
“I only heard about it years later,” Gilmour shared during the Thursday episode. “Someone mentioned that if you start the vinyl on the third roar of the MGM lion, you will experience these strange synchronicities that occur with Dark Side.” This statement highlights the whimsical nature of the theory, suggesting that while the connections are intriguing, they are not intentional.

Gilmour even confessed that he has experimented with the concept himself. “There are these strange coincidences,” he explained to Fallon. “I’ll call them coincidences.” This admission adds a layer of curiosity, inviting fans to explore the unique relationship between music and film, even if it is not a carefully crafted artistic decision.
Roger Waters Shares His Controversial Opinion on ‘Dark Side of the Rainbow’
In 2022, Roger Waters also weighed in on the subject when discussing the two cultural touchstones, but his response was characteristically more confrontational. “Bullshit,” Waters declared during an episode of The Joe Rogan Experience. His candidness reflects his strong opinions on the matter.
“I mean, it may not be – it may [work] if you do what they say,” Waters continued. “But it has nothing to do with us – any of us. Nothing to do with anyone in Pink Floyd or anyone who wrote or recorded any of the music. It’s something that somebody thinks – it’s a coincidence. … Maybe it’s cosmic coincidence!” This perspective captures the essence of the debate surrounding the phenomenon, illustrating the divide among fans and band members about the legitimacy of the synchronicity.
