Historic Home of Will Rogers Lost in Palisades Fire
The devastating wildfires in Los Angeles have tragically claimed the historic home of the legendary actor Will Rogers. This loss represents not just a personal tragedy but a significant cultural and historical setback.
The ferocious fire, which swept through the Pacific Palisades neighborhood—part of a larger series of wildfires devastating Southern California—consumed more than 17,000 acres. Fueled by hurricane-force winds, the flames destroyed over 2,000 structures, including the iconic 31-room ranch house of Will Rogers, along with other significant buildings within the Will Rogers State Historic Park. This area was not just a home but a vital piece of history that showcased the life of one of America’s most beloved entertainers.
In a heartfelt statement, California State Parks Director Armando Quintero expressed profound sorrow over the loss of these invaluable natural and cultural resources, saying, “Our hearts go out to everyone impacted by the devastating fires in the Los Angeles area.” The state parks team is mobilizing all available resources to respond to the emergency and is focused on securing and protecting as much as possible at nearby affected state parks to mitigate further losses.
