The second day of the 2024 Corona Capital Festival on Saturday (Nov. 16) evolved into an electrifying multi-generational celebration. The younger audience reveled in the dynamic performance of Shawn Mendes, while older attendees were treated to the captivating post-punk and Britpop vibes brought by New Order and Travis. Adding to the excitement, American singer-songwriter St. Vincent made a long-awaited return to connect with her Mexican fans, delivering a memorable and impactful performance that resonated with the crowd.
According to festival promoter Ocesa, over 69,000 music lovers gathered for the festival’s second day, enjoying a diverse lineup that included performances from Primal Scream, Melanie Martinez, Black Pumas, The Blaze, Jorja Smith, Tora, Busted, and many more. These exhilarating acts took place across five stages set up at the iconic Curva 4, the former headquarters of Formula 1 in Mexico City.
The talented Canadian-Colombian singer-songwriter Jessie Reyez, known for her collaborations with Dua Lipa, delivered an unforgettable show characterized by her engaging stage presence. She interacted with the audience, charming everyone with her unique voice that beautifully blended elements of hip-hop, soul, and jazz. The excitement continued on Sunday (Nov. 17), featuring the highly anticipated debut of Paul McCartney at a Latin American music festival. This day was further enriched by stellar performances from Jack White, Iggy Pop—who brought along guitarist Nick Zinner from Yeah Yeah Yeahs—and other prominent artists like Empire of the Sun, Beck, Sophie Ellis Bextor, Leon Bridges, Kim Gordon, Maximo Park, and Hermanos Gutiérrez.

Annie Clark, famously known as St. Vincent, fulfilled her promise by returning to Corona Capital after an unfortunate cancellation of her 2021 performance due to a positive Covid-19 test within her team. Her return was nothing short of triumphant! The Grammy-nominated artist showcased music from her latest 2024 album, All Born Screaming, delivering an explosive show that deeply resonated with her Mexican audience—who inspired her recent Spanish album release, Todos Nacen Gritando, just a day prior on Friday (Nov. 15).
She greeted the crowd in Spanish and traversed her diverse discography, performing fan favorites such as “Reckless,” “Fear The Future,” “Los Ageless,” “Big Time Nothing,” “Marrow,” and “Pay Your Way In Pain.” In a heartfelt tribute to her Mexican fans, she also performed the song “Pulga,” further emphasizing her connection to the audience through the language of Cervantes.

For the younger festival-goers, the highlight of the day was undoubtedly Shawn Mendes’ performance. “Hello, Mexico, how are you? I don’t know many words, but I can try,” he said in Spanish, igniting a wave of enthusiasm and applause primarily from the female fans who held signs dedicated to the Canadian heartthrob at the front of the stage.

Fran Healy, the charismatic leader of the Scottish band Travis, addressed the enthusiastic audience at Corona Capital, sharing how he had recently revisited the iconic song “Wonderwall” by Oasis.
