Songwriting Process for ‘Rosie’ Was ‘Free Therapy,’ Says ROSÉ
ROSÉ has recently celebrated the release of her highly anticipated solo debut album, Rosie. In an engaging appearance on Kelly Clarkson’s daytime talk show, she shared insights into the profound vulnerability she has embraced while creating her solo music. This conversation not only highlights her artistic journey but also reflects her emotional growth and connection with fans through her music.
In her own words, “Rosie is the name that my friends and family call me, so as much as this album is a little journal of my twenties, I wanted my fans to feel like they can call me Rosie and feel like I’m their friend.” This sentiment captures the essence of her first full-length project outside of BLACKPINK. She expressed that the process of creating this album has been incredibly therapeutic, stating, “I healed so much through the whole process. For me, it’s a really personal album and I’m really grateful for it.” This connection with her audience is a testament to her artistry and authenticity.
Discussing her songwriting experience, ROSÉ mentioned the notion of being open and “trauma dumping” while crafting her lyrics. She described herself as “extroverted,” revealing, “I ended up figuring out that I love talking about my problems in life to strangers. […] It was like a free therapy session.” This candidness not only illustrates her emotional depth but also establishes a relatable bond with her fans, showcasing how music can serve as a powerful outlet for personal expression.
The 12-track album, released in December, features the chart-topping single “APT.” featuring Bruno Mars, which impressively spent 10 weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200. Another standout track, “Number One Girl,” demonstrates her versatility as an artist. In her heartfelt announcement on Instagram back in October, she shared, “I have poured my blood and tears into this album. I cannot wait for you to listen to this little journal of mine. Rosie – is the name I allow my friends and family to call me. With this album, I hope you all feel that much closer to me.” Her words resonate deeply, inviting fans into her personal journey.
ROSÉ’s solo debut arrives just over two years after BLACKPINK released their last album, Born Pink, which made a significant impact by debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. This transition from a successful group to a solo career marks a pivotal moment in her artistic evolution, highlighting her ability to thrive independently while continuing to engage her audience with relatable and heartfelt music.
