He revealed that to achieve the character’s distinctive high-pitched, congested voice, he had to significantly alter his own vocal patterns. This dedication to his craft, spanning from 1989 to 1998, ultimately led to unintended vocal strain, which he learned about only after consulting a medical professional. The ramifications of this unique portrayal took a toll on his natural speaking voice.

“What happened is during puberty I spoke at the same pitch for extended periods of time. If the pitch had been going all over the place, I wouldn’t have damaged it quite as much. It’s been in remission, and I’m fine now,” Jaleel White explained, highlighting the challenges he faced during this transformative period in his life.

At one point in his career, Jaleel feared he might completely lose his voice. The pressure from the television network intensified his concerns, as they frequently sent notes regarding his voice projection. This feedback created a stressful environment, making him question his abilities as an actor.

Regarding the possibility of a ‘Family Matters’ reboot, Jaleel expressed his willingness to participate but emphasized that he desires more creativity than the standard ‘Fuller House’ formula, which focuses on the original cast’s lives with their own children. Additionally, he wants fair compensation, feeling the initial offer of $80,000 did not reflect his contributions.

“What? So I don’t get to have any say in what’s going to be written, you’re going to cut my old salary in half, I’m going do fewer episodes, and there’s going to be no pitching at all because you’ve already set up that it’s me, Laura, and a kid,” Jaleel expressed during an interview with Rolling Stone in November.
