Eric Clapton’s iconic performance from the ’90s, renowned for its intimate setting, will make a comeback as an enhanced 90-minute theatrical and streaming special, captivating both old fans and new audiences alike.
Now titled Eric Clapton Unplugged … Over 30 Years Later, this much-anticipated film is set to grace theaters on Monday, January 27, and Tuesday, January 28. The original Emmy-winning hour-long special was captured in early January 1992 at Bray Studios in Windsor, England. It remains particularly memorable for Clapton’s stunning acoustic reinterpretation of “Layla,” which was initially recorded with Derek and the Dominos for the classic 1970 album Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs. This pivotal performance showcased Clapton’s extraordinary talent and brought a fresh perspective to one of his most beloved songs.

In addition to revisiting his extensive musical catalog, Clapton honored his roots by performing covers of timeless blues tracks made famous by legends such as Bo Diddley and Bessie Smith. The physical release of the album, simply titled Unplugged, followed in August 1992 and achieved remarkable success, selling over 10 million copies in the U.S. alone. This album marked Clapton’s first chart-topping release since 1974’s 461 Ocean Blvd, making it a significant milestone in his career. Notably, Clapton also garnered six Grammy Awards for Unplugged, including the prestigious Album of the Year award.
The concert film has been meticulously remixed, remastered, and expanded to include exclusive discussions about the inspirations behind specific songs.
