Voltron Live-Action Casts Stars from ‘This Is Us’ and More
Like five robotic lions merging to create a colossal defender, the ensemble cast of Amazon MGM Studios’ Voltron is coming together in an exciting way. The talented Sterling K. Brown, the multi-faceted Rita Ora, and the dynamic John Kim have officially joined the cast of this highly anticipated live-action adaptation of the beloved anime. Previously announced cast members include the charismatic Henry Cavill and the promising newcomer Daniel Quinn-Toye, both of whom are set to bring their unique talents to this iconic franchise.
Currently, both the plot and character details are being closely guarded secrets for the film, which is scheduled to commence filming in Australia this December. It appears that the film will not feature the classic 1980s cast of Voltron‘s heroes—Keith, Pidge, Lance, Hunk, and Princess Allura—who are known for piloting the lions that unite to form the legendary defender. Director Rawson Marshall Thurber, known for his work on Dodgeball and Red Notice, engaged with Voltron fans during last month’s VoltCon, expressing, “I want to make sure that we stay true to the heart and the spirit of Voltron. In this film, we’re going to be introducing an entirely new generation of pilots. We’ve reimagined Voltron for the live-action world while preserving those iconic elements that fans cherish. I’m thrilled to share this journey with you.”
Meet the Exciting New Cast Members of ‘Voltron’
Sterling K. Brown has gained widespread recognition, acclaim, and prestigious Emmy Awards for his standout performances as Christopher Darden in American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson, and as the beloved character Randall Pearson in NBC’s hit drama This Is Us. His impressive career continued with a nomination for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in American Fiction. He has also appeared in blockbuster films such as Black Panther, The Predator, and The Rhythm Section. Recently, he starred alongside Jennifer Lopez in the science fiction adventure Atlas, and he is set to feature in two upcoming Hulu series: the thriller Paradise and the historical drama Washington Black.
Alongside him, Rita Ora is not only a celebrated singer-songwriter but also a versatile TV personality and actress. She has showcased her acting talents in the Fifty Shades of Grey series, the animated hit Detective Pikachu, and the upcoming film Descendants: The Rise of Red. Ora is set to share the screen with Jamie Foxx and Robert De Niro in the upcoming thriller Tin Soldier, emphasizing her dynamic range as an entertainer. Adding to the excitement, John Kim, an Australian actor known for his roles in The Librarians, 9-1-1, and the upcoming series The Last Thing He Told Me, will also star in this film. He is currently leading the cast in Prime Video’s reboot of Cruel Intentions.
The film’s visionary director, Rawson Marshall Thurber, is not only at the helm but also took on the critical role of screenwriter, collaborating with Ellen Shanman to craft a script that aims to honor the spirit of the original series. In addition to directing and writing, Thurber will serve as a producer along with Todd Lieberman from Hidden Pictures, Bob Koplar, and David Hoberman from Hobie Films, ensuring that this project is in capable hands.
The production of Voltron is officially set to kick off next month in Australia; however, as of now, a release date has yet to be revealed. For the latest updates and news, be sure to stay connected with Collider, your go-to source for everything related to movies and entertainment.
