Transgender style Carmen Carrera is speaking out from Peru’s new bill that formally classifies transgender, nonbinary, and intersex individuals currently as “mentally ill.”

Carmen — who is of Puerto Rican-Peruvian ancestry — tells TMZ she thinks the government’s shift aims to alter the individual beliefs of the Peruvian people, who she says are fundamentally supportive of the LGBTQ+ neighborhood, in certain thinking about the reality that they’ve had transgender and nonbinary figures via their indigenous history.
