According to CNN, US District Court Judge Charles Simpson dismissed prices towards former detective Joshua Jaynes and former officer Kyle Meany. The outlet notes that in 2022, the pair had been charged with “submitting a false affidavit,” which prompted the deadly search of Taylor’s residence on March 13, 2020.

Additionally, the pair had been accused of making a “false cover story in an attempt to escape responsibility for their roles” in creating the search warrant with “false information.” The pair’s preliminary prices reportedly carried life sentences. However, on Thursday, August 22, Judge Simpson reportedly declared that the search warrant didn’t result in Taylor’s dying. Instead, Simpson reportedly said that Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, firing his gun at officers was “the legal cause” of her dying.

“There is no direct link between the warrantless entry and Taylor’s death,” the courtroom’s ruling reads, per the outlet. “Taylor’s death was proximately caused by the manner in which the warrant was executed. [Kenneth Walker’s] decision to open fire, as alleged and argued, was the natural and probable consequence of executing the warrant at 12:45 a.m. on ‘an unsuspecting household.’ That decision prompted the return fire, which hit and killed Taylor.”

According to TMZ, Jaynes nonetheless faces “two counts of falsification of records, conspiracy to falsify records, and witness tampering” prices within the case.
