Selena Gomez Responds to Body-Shaming Criticism

Selena Gomez Defends Herself Against Online Body-Shaming After the Premiere of ‘Emilia Perez’

Selena Gomez is taking a stand against body-shaming and advocating for self-acceptance.

After the 32-year-old actress and singer attended the premiere of her film Emilia Perez at the prestigious French American Film Festival in Los Angeles on October 29, she was met with a barrage of comments on TikTok regarding her appearance.

Particularly, the “Same Old Love” artist addressed a video that suggested she was “hiding” her body by positioning her hands over her stomach while posing for photos. This unfounded critique prompted Selena to respond directly to the misinformation.

“This makes me sick,” Selena expressed in a comment below the since-deleted video, as captured in a screenshot shared by TMZ. “I have SEBO in my small intestine. It flares up. I don’t care that I don’t look like a sick figure. I don’t have that body. End of story. No I am NOT a victim. I’m just human.”

According to the Mayo Clinic, “Small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO) occurs when there is an abnormal increase in the overall bacterial population in the small intestine—particularly types of bacteria not commonly found in that part of the digestive tract.” This condition can lead to a variety of digestive issues, explaining the necessity for Gomez to clarify her health status.
