Detailed Account of the Arrest Involving a Torch and Flare Gun at the Capitol

According to a report by WUSA9, the incident transpired on Tuesday, November 5, at approximately 12:30 p.m. During a press conference, USCP Chief Thomas Manger explained that the individual, described as a white male, entered the visitor center and was directed by security personnel to place his belongings through a security checkpoint. Chief Manger provided insights into the situation, emphasizing the gravity of the event.

“He stood there for a few seconds and then put his stuff on the conveyor belt. As soon as his coat and backpack went through the screening area, U.S. Capitol Police officers saw something that appeared to be a firearm as well as two bottles,” Chief Manger reportedly explained.

As officers observed the man, they detected what they described as a “faint odor of gasoline.” As the items were removed from the screening belt, the smell became increasingly potent, indicating a potential threat.

“At that point, the suspect was detained. He was placed under arrest. We found a flare gun and a torch lighter in his jacket. There were also other articles in his backpack. He is now in custody,” Chief Manger added.

Moreover, Chief Manger highlighted that this case is now classified as a “very active investigation,” raising concerns about the implications of such actions within the Capitol’s premises.

Reports indicate that the man claimed he had papers he intended to deliver to Congress. Despite the overwhelming smell of gasoline surrounding him, authorities noted that “it did not appear he had doused himself,” which leaves many questions unanswered regarding his intentions.

In addition, Chief Manger stated that there’s “no indication right now” linking the man’s actions to the election, which may help to alleviate some fears surrounding election-related violence. According to NBC Washington, the suspect is a 28-year-old from Michigan, but his name has yet to be disclosed by law enforcement.

As previously reported by The Shade Room, this shocking occurrence took place on April 19, coinciding with a high-profile trial involving Donald Trump.

According to ABC News, the individual was later identified as Maxwell Azzarello, who was described as a conspiracy theorist. Prior to the self-immolation, he reportedly distributed propaganda-based pamphlets, raising questions about his mental state and motivations.
