Prince William Addresses “Brutal” Year Following Cancer Diagnoses
Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, has shared some striking insights about his life.
His recent remarks have certainly caught the public’s attention.
In a deeply revealing interview on November 7, following his visit to Cape Town, South Africa, the Prince of Wales candidly discussed the myriad challenges he has faced over the past months.
In a straightforward manner, William described the past year as “dreadful,” revealing to reporters that “it’s probably been the hardest year in my life,” according to the BBC.
Given the circumstances, it is hardly surprising that he feels this way, wouldn’t you agree?
This year has been particularly tumultuous for the royal family, as both Kate Middleton and Prince Charles received cancer diagnoses.
The Princess of Wales seems to be recovering well after undergoing multiple rounds of chemotherapy. However, there are concerning reports suggesting that Charles may be battling pancreatic cancer, which could significantly shorten his lifespan.
The 42-year-old Prince elaborated on the difficulty of balancing his royal responsibilities with family obligations, stating to the media:
“Trying to get through everything else and keep everything on track has been really difficult,” emphasizing the weight of his commitments.
William, who is the proud father of three children—Prince George (11), Princess Charlotte (9), and Prince Louis (6)—took a moment to commend both his father and his wife for their resilience during these challenging times.
“I’m so proud of my wife, I’m proud of my father, for handling the things that they have done,” he said. “But from a personal family point of view, it’s been, yeah, it’s been brutal.”
When questioned about Kate Middleton’s condition, who revealed on September 9 that she had completed her cancer treatment, William assured everyone that she is “doing well.” However, he humorously remarked, after being told he looked relaxed, that,
“I couldn’t be less relaxed this year, so it’s very interesting you’re all seeing that.”
This level of openness is rare from Prince William, making it a refreshing change that showcases his humanity.
“It’s more a case of just crack on and you’ve got to keep going,” he explained. “I enjoy my work and I enjoy pacing myself and keeping sure that I have got time for my family, too.”
As the future King, William is gradually assuming more responsibilities, especially given his father’s health situation.
In discussing his evolving role, William mentioned the Earthshot Prize, an esteemed global environmental award recognizing five winners each year for their substantial contributions to environmental sustainability.
“Do I like more responsibility? No. Do I like the freedom that I can build something like Earthshot? Then yes. And that’s the future for me,” he remarked, illustrating his commitment to impactful initiatives.
“It’s very important, with my role and my platform, that I’m doing something for good. That I’m helping people’s lives and I’m doing something that is genuinely meaningful,” William added, emphasizing the significance of his work.
“So, the Earthshot is a culmination, if you like, of all that put together,” he concluded, highlighting his dedication to making a positive difference in the world.
