These powerful words were shared by the newly celebrated four-time Grammy nominee, Doechii, as she proudly accepted the Visionary Award from her mother, Celesia Moore, during the Give Her FlowHERS Awards Gala held on the evening of November 8. Her empowering acceptance speech resonated deeply with the audience, especially when she candidly shared her journey of being “recently sober … with a truly renewed spirit.” The heartfelt moment was just one of many that illuminated the packed ballroom at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, as attendees celebrated the third annual gala and fundraiser presented by Femme It Forward, with support from sponsors like Live Nation and Spotify.

Among the distinguished honorees of the evening were the talented GloRilla and the legendary Jill Scott. GloRilla, who earlier in the day was celebrated as a two-time Grammy nominee, was honored with the Big Femme Energy Award, presented by actress LisaRaye McCoy. This recognition not only signifies her achievements but also highlights her impact in the music industry as a rising star.

“Shout out to God. Shout out to you all. Shout out to me,” GloRilla expressed passionately. “I always strive to embody the three D’s: determination, dedication, and diligence. Never let anyone dictate what you are capable of achieving because, ultimately, their limitations do not define your potential.”

The evening also celebrated Grammy-winning artist Jill Scott, who received the Muse Award. In a special tribute before her recognition, gala host Saweetie—who herself was honored with the Give Her FlowHERS Award for exemplifying empowerment and cultural influence—along with singer-songwriter Alex Isley, praised Scott’s contributions to music and her inspiring journey.

“I have created a dedicated space in my home where I can write and reflect; I firmly believe in the power of inspiration,” Scott shared. “My office is adorned with images of remarkable women, artists, and entertainers who inspire me. I often glance at them, especially during moments of fear or self-doubt when I feel inadequate. These extraordinary entertainers demonstrate such bravery and passion for their craft, reminding me that I, too, can persevere for another day or even another hour. It’s perfectly fine to feel scared, as long as you continue to move forward.”

Surprising everyone with their presence at the start of the evening were Snoop Dogg and his wife, Shante Broadus. They were honored with the Black Love Award by Heather Lowery, the president and CEO of Femme It Forward. Snoop expressed his gratitude, stating, “There’s nothing like receiving an award that brings your family, your foundation to the stage. This award feels more significant than a Grammy to me,” reflecting on his journey of multiple Grammy nominations without a win.

The gala also recognized other notable figures, including Chloe + Halle for My Sister’s Keeper, Lady London for Self Love, and artist-songwriter Nija Charles for Pen It Forward. Among the presenters was Grammy-winning singer-actress Andra Day. Throughout the awards ceremony, segments were dedicated to honoring music and media executives who have played crucial roles as mentors to young women through Femme It Forward’s sister organization, Next Gem Femme.

The esteemed circle of honorees was celebrated by their mentees from Next Gem Femme, which included Jayne Andrew, co-founder of COLTURE; Lynne M. Scott, VP of Vydia/gamma; Lou Taylor, CEO of Tri-Star; Miatta Johnson, president and CEO of MVD Inc.; Sierra Lever, head of hip-hop and R&B at Amazon Music; and Cheryl Paglierani, a music agent at CAA. The generous funds donated to Next Gem Femme by attendees will be directed towards enhancing workplace equity and fast-tracking career opportunities for young women of color, contributing to a more inclusive future.

During her opening remarks, Heather Lowery, founder of Next Gem Femme, articulated the mission behind the Give Her FlowHERS initiative: “We see you and honor you. You are the reason we’re gathered here tonight.” She referenced the inspiring message found on notecards at each table setting, stating, “No rain, no flowers.” Her words emphasized the importance of weathering challenges and nurturing growth, reinforcing that while we cannot change the past, we have the power to shape a new future.
