Sundance Head Accidentally Shoots Himself and Is Hospitalized

Sundance Head, the remarkable 2016 champion of NBC’s The Voice, is currently in stable condition following an unfortunate accidental shooting incident that occurred while he was hunting near his Texas ranch. This incident has raised concerns, but updates indicate that he is on the mend.

The 46-year-old talented country singer, whose real name is Jason Head, was hospitalized on Friday, November 15, after a firearm he was handling unexpectedly discharged, resulting in a gunshot wound to his stomach. Initial reports about this alarming event were first disclosed by TMZ, prompting a wave of concern from fans and followers.

The unfortunate incident transpired when the singer’s firearm accidentally “slipped out of the holster, hit the side of the Jeep, and discharged into his stomach area,” as explained by a representative for Head during an interview with CBS News. This highlights the inherent risks associated with handling firearms, especially in outdoor settings.

In a heartfelt Facebook post shared through her husband’s account, Head’s wife, Misty, provided reassurance to fans, confirming that the musician is indeed in stable condition and clarified that the shooting was entirely accidental and not the result of any intentional act or involvement of a hunting rifle. This clarification aims to alleviate any concerns from fans about the nature of the accident.

“It was not his hunting rifle, and nobody shot him,” Misty Head elaborated in her post. “He was out of the vehicle reaching in to grab his .22 caliber when the gun slipped out of its holster, struck the exterior of the Jeep just right, and discharged. Sundance described the incident as a quick blur, noting he could see the bullet dislodging.”

Misty further explained that the bullet penetrated just above Sundance’s navel and became lodged in the abdominal wall, narrowly avoiding any damage to vital organs. This fortunate turn of events has been a relief for the family and fans alike, considering the potential severity of such an injury.

“She mentioned that he will not require surgery since the medical team has determined that the bullet will remain in place and not be removed,” Misty wrote. “Being on the heavier side was actually beneficial in this case. The bullet is now situated in his fatty tissue, which offers a layer of protection.”

At the time of the unfortunate accident, Sundance did not have his cell phone with him. However, a passing driver noticed the situation and promptly came to his aid by calling 911. This timely intervention was crucial in ensuring that he received the necessary medical attention swiftly.

Misty expressed her gratitude to fans, assuring them that her husband was in “good spirits” and appreciated the overwhelming support from the community. “The kids are with him now. Our prayers have been answered as there was no internal damage caused by the bullet. Thank you, everyone, for your prayers and support,” she conveyed through a heartfelt message on Facebook.

Sundance Head, son of the well-known country singer Roy Head, gained widespread recognition as the season 11 champion of The Voice in 2016, where he showcased his vocal talents as a member of Blake Shelton’s team.
