Biggest-Selling Rock Album of 2024 Might Shock You
Remarkably, the best-selling rock album of 2024 is an impressive 47 years old, showcasing the enduring legacy of classic rock music.
Despite a music landscape predominantly filled with pop, country, and hip-hop sounds, Fleetwood Mac’s iconic 1977 album Rumours has managed to ascend to the top, securing its position as the highest-charting rock album on Billboard’s 2024 year-end chart at No. 34. This incredible feat places it just one rank above Elton John’s 2017 compilation album Diamonds, highlighting the album’s unmatched popularity and influence over the decades.
Out of the Top 200 albums on Billboard‘s year-end 2024 chart, only 29 belong to rock artists, a stark reminder of the genre’s challenges in the current music scene. Alarmingly, none of these were new releases from the year, with the majority being greatest hits compilations. Aside from Rumours, the other non-compilation rock albums that made it onto the chart include Nirvana’s Nevermind, AC/DC’s Back in Black, Linkin Park’s [Hybrid Theory], and Sublime’s self-titled album from 1996.

In a remarkable display of commercial success, Taylor Swift dominated the chart with her latest release, The Tortured Poets Department, which secured the No. 1 spot. Swift also made headlines by claiming the No. 2 position with 1989 (Taylor’s Version), and she further solidified her presence by landing at No. 9 with her 2019 album Lover and No. 10 with Midnights, released in 2022. This level of achievement underscores her significant impact on the contemporary music landscape.
