Released unexpectedly on Tuesday, December 17, this comprehensive 38-track compilation features all of the music that was originally made available on six exclusive vinyl records sold directly at Aphex Twin’s merch desks between 2016 and 2023. This surprise drop showcases the artist’s commitment to delivering exceptional electronic music while engaging with his dedicated fan base.

The release of this compilation coincides with the seventh anniversary of the first of these original records, titled Houston, TX 12.17.16. This record was similarly unveiled without any prior announcement during Aphex Twin’s highly anticipated return to the U.S. for the Day for Night festival in Houston, marking a significant moment in his career after an eight-year hiatus from U.S. performances.

Following the initial release, a series of additional records were offered at various live performances, including shows in London in 2017, 2019, and 2023, as well as events in Manchester in 2019 and Barcelona in 2023. Each of these exclusive releases featured the iconic Warp Records logo and quickly sold out, leading to a surge in online scalping where fans were left scrambling to acquire these coveted records at inflated prices.

Notably, Aphex Twin’s London 03.06.17 received a significant expansion after its initial physical release. A digital reissue was launched the following month, adding an impressive ten additional tracks, with a bonus track set to be released in April 2024 under the newly revised title, London 03.06.17 [field day]. This reflects his ongoing commitment to providing fans with fresh and exciting content.

The newly released compilation follows the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Aphex Twin’s groundbreaking album, Selected Ambient Works Volume II, which was reissued in October. Originally released in 1994, this album did not chart significantly outside of the U.K. but gained immense popularity over time, achieving remarkable chart positions upon its reissue, including topping the U.K. Dance Albums chart and debuting at No. 135 on the Billboard 200.

While Aphex Twin has released several EPs and singles alongside these merchandise drops over the last decade, it is noteworthy that he has not put out a studio album since the Grammy-winning Syro, which took home the award for Best Dance/Electronic Album in the following year. This absence has only heightened the anticipation among fans for any new material from this legendary artist.
