Paul McCartney’s Solo Band: Outlasting The Beatles and Wings
Paul McCartney recently shared his thoughts on the astonishing fact that the current lineup of his solo band has now been together for a longer duration than the combined time of both The Beatles and Wings. This exceptional group, which has just wrapped up the successful Got Back world tour, includes talented musicians such as guitarists Rusty Anderson and Brian Ray, drummer Abe Laboriel Jr., and keyboardist Wix Wickens. Together, they have formed a cohesive unit that has thrived for over two decades, showcasing their remarkable synergy and musical chemistry.
To put this into perspective, The Beatles were active from 1960 to 1970, while Wings enjoyed their run from 1971 to 1981, which adds up to just shy of 20 years total. This longevity in McCartney’s solo band highlights not only their dedication but also their ability to create music collaboratively over the years.

Reflecting on this unique bond, McCartney stated, “We get on so well!” while answering a fan question on his website. He elaborated on the camaraderie within the group, noting, “You used to hear, particularly in the ‘70s, of bands breaking up and arguing and not lasting. But with this one, we just get on really well.” This positive dynamic has contributed significantly to their enduring success and creativity.
Paul McCartney’s Aspiration for the New Year: Complete a New Album
McCartney went on to express his excitement about the current state of the band, saying, “We’ve got it now so we can play, we can discuss things and we can make decisions within the band. And it works well – we’ve been together now for over 20 years, which is crazy!” His enthusiasm reflects a deep appreciation for the collaborative process that has flourished within this talented ensemble.
When asked about his New Year’s resolutions, McCartney revealed his aspiration: “Here’s one: finish an album! I’ve been working on a lot of songs and have had to put it to the side because of the tour. … I’m hoping to get back into that and finish up a lot of these songs.” This commitment to his craft highlights his enduring passion for music and the creative process.
In the meantime, McCartney indicated that he plans to spend quality time with his family during the Christmas season. “I’m one of those guys that loves to overdo decorations, so I need a minute to sit back, relax and enjoy them,” he shared, emphasizing the importance of balancing his music career with cherished family moments.
