Chappell Roan Apologizes for ‘Glee’ Christmas Episode Critique
Chappell Roan is delivering a lighthearted apology after sharing her candid critique of a holiday-themed episode from the iconic series Glee.
On Monday (Dec. 23), the 26-year-old rising pop star expressed her opinions regarding the musical comedy’s memorable season 3 episode titled “Extraordinary Merry Christmas.” This commentary was shared through a series of engaging posts on an Instagram account managed by Roan alongside her creative director, Ramisha Sattar. Her reflections highlighted her personal connection to the show and its impact on pop culture during its run.
“This is the worst episode of Glee I’ve ever seen,” Roan remarked with a chuckle while the 2011 episode aired in the background. “I’m turning it off. I hate it,” she declared, playfully pausing the episode with the remote. “Next.” Her humorous take on the episode resonated with fans who appreciate her candidness and sense of humor about the series.
Shortly after her initial commentary, Roan returned with another entertaining video, this time captured in front of a beautifully decorated Christmas tree. In this lively clip, she humorously apologized to devoted Glee fans, while someone off-camera playfully brandished a pair of sharp scissors, adding a comedic element to her apology.
“This is my apology video for the Gleeks that I offended. I am so sorry,” Roan sincerely began. “I love every episode of Glee, and I love Kurt and Blaine,” she further expressed, affectionately referencing the beloved characters portrayed by Chris Colfer and Darren Criss on the iconic Fox series. Her heartfelt acknowledgment of the characters showcased her appreciation for the show’s impact on its audience.
This is not the first occasion Roan has openly discussed her opinions on Glee, the groundbreaking series that captivated audiences from 2009 to 2015. In a fan-captured video from a live performance earlier this year, the Grammy-nominated artist revealed that she had recently begun binge-watching the show, indicating her evolving relationship with the series and its themes.
“I just started watching Glee. I’m on season 2,” Roan shared enthusiastically with her audience. “It took me like three full tries to get into Glee, ’cause I was initially like, ‘This is stupid as f—.’ But then I made the choice to lean into the experience,” she added, highlighting her journey from skepticism to appreciation for the show’s unique storytelling and musical elements.
As the year wraps up, Roan is celebrating a remarkable achievement, currently ranking No. 1 on Billboard‘s Top New Artists chart. This milestone marks a year of extraordinary success for her, with significant placements on both the Billboard 200 albums chart and the Billboard Hot 100 songs chart. Her debut full-length album, The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess, impressively peaked at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 in August. Moreover, she has secured seven entries on the Billboard Hot 100, including her first top 10 hit with “Good Luck, Babe!” which soared to No. 4, showcasing her rising star power in the music industry.
