This film has emerged as the most frightening vampire tale in years. For those unfamiliar with the backstory, Nosferatu originally refers to the 1922 silent German expressionist horror film by F.W. Murnau, which served as an unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula.

Echoing Murnau’s foundational work, Eggers, who also penned the screenplay, adheres to the core premise of Stoker’s Dracula. In this iteration, Bill Skarsgard portrays Count Orlok, whose obsessive fixation on Lily-Rose Depp’s Ellen Hutter (a modern counterpart to Mina Harker) drives the plot forward. While familiar narrative elements are preserved, the film diverges by presenting itself not merely as a gothic romance but as a psychological horror, showcasing Depp’s stunning portrayal of an increasingly disturbed Ellen.
