Star Trek 4: Zoe Saldaña Eager for Production to Start Soon

Zoe Saldaña expresses her hope for the completion of Star Trek 4, reflecting on the missed opportunities to film the project earlier. She recently shared her thoughts on the subject, highlighting the passage of time and its impact on the cast, which has become more evident as they grow older.

Zoe Saldaña’s Insights on the Future of Star Trek 4

In a recent interview with Deadline, Saldaña conveyed her wishes for the film’s production timeline, expressing a desire for the creative team to have started sooner. She humorously acknowledged the changes that time has brought, noting that the cast now sports a significant amount of gray hair. Saldaña emphasized the urgency of moving forward with the project, especially if the original cast intends to reprise their beloved characters.

“I wish we were able to do it sooner rather than later,” said Saldaña, adding, “I feel like a lot of us have a full head of gray hair, so we need to do this quickly, if this is the same cast that’s going to reprise it again.” Her comments reflect the sentiment that the actors’ age should be considered in the film’s production schedule to preserve the essence of their characters.

When asked about her aspirations for the narrative of the upcoming film, Saldaña pointed to the dynamic between Uhura and Spock, portrayed by Zachary Quinto, as a compelling storyline worth exploring. She believes that delving into their evolving relationship would resonate well with fans and provide depth to the characters’ journeys.

“It’s been a minute since I reconnected with Star Trek and all the characters’ journeys,” Saldaña stated. “But Uhura and Spock were always sort of drawn to each other; it just makes sense to see what is the next step in their relationship and their work relationship as well.” This insight highlights her enthusiasm for character development and the potential for rich storytelling within the franchise.

The last update regarding the fourth installment of the beloved sci-fi series indicated that Steve Yockey, known for creating the Max drama series The Flight Attendant, had come on board as the new writer for the project. This development has sparked renewed interest and speculation among fans eager for news on Star Trek 4.

It has been almost five years since Paramount Pictures officially announced the development of Star Trek 4. Throughout this time, the film has experienced numerous creative shifts, including changes in its directorial leadership. Last year raised concerns among fans when Paramount removed the film from its 2023 theatrical release schedule, leading to questions about whether Star Trek 4 would ever come to fruition.

In early 2022, during Paramount’s Investors Day Presentation, producer J.J. Abrams reassured fans that Star Trek 4 was actively in development, with the original cast expected to return. This includes notable actors such as Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldaña, Karl Urban, John Cho, and Simon Pegg. However, as of now, the film is without a director, following the exit of WandaVision’s Matt Shakman due to scheduling conflicts with Marvel Studios’ upcoming Fantastic Four.
