Invitations to Donald Trump’s Event for Kate Middleton, Prince William
In just two weeks, the United States will witness Donald Trump’s inauguration as the 47th President, a pivotal moment in American political history.
This event will undoubtedly be bittersweet for fans of Grover Cleveland, as he will no longer hold the unique distinction of being the only president to have served non-consecutive terms in office.
It’s well-known that Trump possesses a remarkable flair for showmanship and has a competitive nature, especially when it comes to comparing himself with previous presidents.
As a result, it’s no surprise that the former reality TV star is taking extraordinary measures to ensure that his inauguration is not only memorable but also touted as the largest and most significant in history.
Recent reports from CNN indicate that one of Trump’s strategies to distinguish his inauguration from past events is by extending invitations to a wide array of foreign leaders and dignitaries.
Among the first to receive an invitation was Chinese President Xi Jinping, although his attendance remains uncertain.
Furthermore, according to Fox News, the leader of the world’s most populous country might be joined by some notable representatives from America’s closest allies.
Royal commentator Neil Sean reported that insiders have disclosed that Prince William and Princess Catherine, along with the reigning King and Queen, have all received invitations to Trump’s inauguration set for January 20 in Washington, D.C.
William had a notable meeting with Trump last month during their time in Paris for the reopening of the historic Notre Dame Cathedral, where they engaged in an extensive discussion, and Trump later praised the future king.
Given the importance of the special relationship between the United States and the United Kingdom, it’s easy to see why Sean’s assertion about the royals being invited to the inauguration resonates; however, the question remains: will they accept?
Given the significance of the “special relationship,” declining the invitation could be interpreted as a major diplomatic snub, which both nations would likely want to avoid.
However, Trump’s history with the royal family is complex, and it’s conceivable that King Charles and other royals may prefer to distance themselves from the event entirely.
Before his re-election, Trump alluded to intentions of deporting Prince Harry following revelations of drug use outlined in Harry’s memoir, which complicates the royal dynamics further.
Additionally, Eric Trump, the president’s son, has made derogatory comments about both Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, further straining relations between the royal family and the Trump family.
While the royals may currently be at odds with Harry and Meghan, it’s likely that William feels a stronger allegiance to his brother than to an American politician he met only recently.
Furthermore, the royal family is acutely aware that attending the inauguration could be interpreted as a public endorsement of Trump, which would contradict their long-established principle of remaining neutral in foreign affairs.
In summary, if we were to speculate, it seems unlikely that the royals will attend the inauguration. However, given the unpredictable nature of 2025, anything is possible, even within the first week of the new year!
