Former Skid Row frontman Sebastian Bach recognizes that his reputation as a collaborator can be quite challenging. He openly admits that he is not the easiest person to work with, which can often surprise those who don’t know him well.

Recently, Bach made a guest appearance on The Jasta Show, a podcast hosted by Hatebreed vocalist Jamey Jasta. During this engaging conversation, they discussed a potential project from 2018 that ultimately transformed into For the Love of Metal, a solo album by Dee Snider, which was produced by Jasta. This revelation highlights the intricate relationships and creative processes within the music industry.

“People have this complete misconception to the point of just insanity that somehow I don’t write my songs or participate in making records,” Bach explained, emphasizing that his public persona does not accurately reflect his meticulous approach in the studio. He describes himself as “a control freak,” which is a critical aspect of his artistic identity.

Throughout the podcast, Bach elaborated on the challenges he faces when recording songs written by others, which ultimately led him to withdraw from the collaboration with Jasta. He expressed, “You were sending me completed songs a lot. And the odds of me saying, ‘Okay, I’m going to do this completed song’ is just very, very rare.” This illustrates his preference for a more hands-on approach where he can contribute creatively from the ground up.

He further explained that when collaborating with songwriters in his solo band or during his later years with Skid Row, he thrives on receiving a simple riff to build upon. “When I get a riff, I put it in my fucking playlist and let it ruminate,” he shared, highlighting his creative process and how he channels his energy into making music that feels authentic to him.

Bach candidly acknowledged that his high standards and expectations can make him a difficult collaborator. “I’m a fucking cunt,” he stated with a touch of humor. “In a good way! Like, people just don’t understand until they try to make a record with me.” This self-awareness and honesty provide insight into his artistic journey and the complexities of collaboration in the music industry.

His latest solo album, Child Within the Man, which was released in May, showcases his continued evolution as an artist and his commitment to creating music that resonates with his fans.
