Neil Young Shares Statement on Cancelled Free Concert in Ukraine

Renowned musician Neil Young has made the difficult decision to cancel his scheduled free concert in Ukraine, citing his inability to “take his crew and equipment into a war zone” with a clear conscience as the reason. The ongoing conflict with Russia has created an unstable environment, and Young’s concern for safety is paramount. Originally, he had announced plans for the concert earlier this month, intending to kick off his much-anticipated Love Earth world tour in Ukraine, although specific details regarding the date and venue were not provided at that time. Now, he has officially confirmed that this event will not take place.

In a heartfelt statement posted on his Neil Young Archives website, he expressed, “Our concert in Ukraine is canceled. We had secured a good venue, close to a shelter, but the rapidly changing situation on the ground was too precarious.” He further emphasized, “I could not in good conscience take my crew and instruments into that area. My apologies to all. Ukraine is a great country with a good leader. Slava Ukraini.” This cancellation reflects the complexities and challenges artists face when planning events in conflict-affected regions.

The news of Young’s cancellation coincides with reports that Ukraine and Russia have reached an agreement “in principle” for a limited ceasefire, following discussions between their leaders and President Donald Trump, as reported by the Associated Press. Before this accord, Russian President Vladimir Putin had dismissed Trump’s proposal for a comprehensive 30-day ceasefire, leaving many uncertainties regarding the specifics of the limited ceasefire—such as its onset and which targets will be excluded—yet to be clarified.

Neil Young Ditches Dynamic Pricing for His Upcoming Love Earth Tour

Young’s highly anticipated Love Earth tour is now set to commence on June 18 in Rättvik, Sweden. He plans to tour across Europe for several weeks before making his way to North America. This tour is expected to conclude on September 15 at the iconic Hollywood Bowl, promising an unforgettable experience for fans.

In a significant move, Young has opted not to utilize Ticketmaster’s dynamic pricing model for this tour. This decision was influenced by Robert Smith of The Cure, who similarly rejected this pricing strategy on his band’s recent tour, labeling it a “greedy scam.” Young has voiced strong criticism against dynamic pricing, stating it has become a detrimental trend for concerts globally. He remarked, “Robert really helped me to realize that I have a choice to make and can create a positive impact for my music-loving friends.” Young further encouraged fans to act swiftly when tickets go on sale, warning that prices could soar in secondary markets if they do not.
