During the podcast discussion, Michael inquired about the most challenging period in Aaron‘s life, prompting him to share the emotional journey surrounding their decision to part ways during the COVID-19 crisis.
“You know, COVID was a really tough time,” he reflected. “We welcomed a brand new baby into our family, and my father was also staying home with a 3-year-old and a newborn. Tragically, my father fell ill during that time and passed away. Then, just eight months later, my wife and I made the difficult decision to separate.”
“I was navigating the grief of losing my dad while simultaneously dealing with the dissolution of my marriage,” Aaron elaborated, saying, “For about two and a half years, it felt like the hits just kept coming.”
Aaron indicated that prior to their definitive split, they attempted couple’s therapy, and he also sought individual therapy to help process his emotions.
“We were actively participating in therapy to strengthen our marriage. My ex is a therapist, so there was always a strong encouragement to pursue therapeutic solutions, which we did. We made every effort to nurture our relationship and marriage,” he stated, adding that they attended therapy together for a year before deciding to go their separate ways.
Aaron and Zoe tied the knot in 2014 and share two daughters, Esme and Margot.
Aaron, whose twin brother Shawn Ashmore is also a well-known actor, currently stars in the series Skymed. His impressive portfolio also includes roles in Locke & Key, Killjoys, Designated Survivor, Warehouse 13, and films such as Wish Upon a Christmas, Santa’s Squad, Pretty Cheaters, Deadly Lies, Cider and Sunsets, Suze, among others.
