Andor Book Canceled Due to Concerns Over AI

Creator Tony Gilroy initially expressed a desire to publish a collection of scripts from the first season of Andor. However, concerns regarding the potential misuse of these scripts for AI training have led him to ultimately abandon this project. This decision highlights the ongoing debate in the creative community regarding the implications of artificial intelligence on original content and intellectual property.

After the successful conclusion of the first season of Andor on Disney+, Tony Gilroy shared his ambitions to compile a book featuring the scripts from this critically acclaimed Star Wars series. Unfortunately, Gilroy has now indicated that this publication will not come to fruition. He recently conveyed to Collider his apprehensions about the possibility of these Andor scripts being utilized to train artificial intelligence, a concern that he feels is too significant to overlook.

I wanted to do it. We put it together. It’s really cool. I’ve seen it, I loved it. AI is the reason we’re not,” Gilroy remarked. “In the end, it would be 1,500 pages that came directly off this desk. I mean, terribly sadly, it’s just too much of an X-ray and too easily absorbed. Why help the f*ing robots anymore than you can? So, it was an ego thing. It was vanity that makes you want to do it, and the downside is real. So, vanity loses.

While it is disappointing that the increasing prevalence of AI technology has led to the cancellation of Gilroy’s envisioned book of Andor scripts, fans can still look forward to the upcoming second season, which promises to delve deeper into the rich narratives and character developments we’ve come to appreciate.

Andor Season 2 is set to unfold “as the horizon of war draws near and Cassian becomes a key player in the Rebel Alliance. Everyone will be tested and, as the stakes rise, the betrayals, sacrifices and conflicting agendas will become profound.” This new season will bring back familiar faces from Rogue One, including Ben Mendelsohn portraying Imperial Director Orson Krennic and Alan Tudyk as the beloved droid K-2SO. There are also intriguing speculations among fans regarding the possibility of digitally resurrecting Peter Cushing as Grand Moff Tarkin.

Andor star Diego Luna has teased that viewers will finally discover the backstory behind Cassian’s relationship with the former Imperial droid. “From an audience perspective, they’ve probably made their own story about how Cassian and K-2 got to work together,” Luna stated. “It tells you a lot about Cassian that his best friend is a droid. And a droid he had to reprogramme. But how did that actually happen and who was he before? Those questions are going to be answered.

Mark your calendar, as the highly anticipated second season of Andor is set to premiere on Disney+ on April 22nd.
