Renowned rockabilly artist Brian Setzer has disclosed a significant health challenge, as he is currently unable to play guitar due to an unspecified autoimmune disease that has unfortunately impacted his exceptional musical talents. This news comes as a disappointment to his fans who have followed his illustrious career over the years.

On Thursday, February 13, Setzer took to social media to share his current health situation with his devoted followers. This announcement followed a prolonged absence from live performances, during which he encountered severe hand cramping and a noticeable decline in his guitar-playing abilities towards the end of the Stray Cats? summer tour in 2024, which concluded in August. His heartfelt message provided fans with insight into his struggles and determination.

In his candid update, Setzer stated, ?I?ve since discovered that I have an autoimmune disease. I cannot play guitar.? He explained that while he experiences no pain, attempting to play feels akin to wearing a pair of gloves. However, he expressed a sliver of hope, noting that he can now hold a pen and tie his shoes, which were once difficult tasks for him. ?I know this sounds ridiculous,? he added, ?but I was at a point where I couldn?t even do that.? This honest reflection underscores the challenges faced by musicians with health issues.

Setzer mentioned, ?Fortunately, I have access to the best hospital in the world, the Mayo Clinic, just down the street. I am confident that I will overcome this condition, but it will require time and perseverance.? Brian Setzer gained fame in the early 1980s as the dynamic guitarist and vocalist of the iconic rockabilly band, Stray Cats. The group achieved significant success, producing numerous hit albums and singles, including chart-toppers like ?Rock This Town? and ?Stray Cat Strut? from their self-titled debut album released in 1981. After disbanding in 1984, they reunited two years later, continuing to leave a lasting impact on the rockabilly genre and music as a whole.

In addition to his work with the Stray Cats, Setzer has led the Brian Setzer Orchestra since 1990, further showcasing his versatility as an artist. His latest solo project, The Devil Always Collects, was released in 2023, while the Stray Cats delighted fans with their 2019 album 40, marking their first studio release in 26 years.
