In a candid revelation, Cher has openly discussed her experiences working with directors she found challenging, notably citing Peter Bogdanovich and Frank Oz as the two worst filmmakers she has encountered throughout her illustrious career.

While Cher is undeniably a powerhouse vocalist, her cinematic journey has been equally remarkable, earning her two Oscar nominations and a prestigious Academy Award win. With her undeniable talent on screen, she has collaborated with some of the industry’s most esteemed directors, including Robert Altman, Mike Nichols, and George Miller. However, like many actresses, Cher has encountered her share of difficulties on set, leading her to speak out about the less-than-stellar experiences with certain directors who made her work life challenging.

When reflecting on her most regrettable collaborations, Cher specifically mentioned two directors who left a negative impression on her: “There are only two directors I didn’t like: Peter Bogdanovich and the guy from The Muppets,” referring to Frank Oz. She recounted a tense situation with Oz, stating, “I actually got the guy from The Muppets fired. I said, ‘Either you’re going or I’m going,’ which is a shame because he’s a really good director, but he had a thing about me. He would go, ‘At least my wife loves me!’” This confrontation resulted in Oz‘s dismissal from the 1990 film Mermaids, where he was ultimately replaced by Richard Benjamin.

Regarding the late Peter Bogdanovich, who directed her in the 1985 film Mask, Cher expressed her disdain quite bluntly: “He was an asshole. He was not nice to the girls in the film and he was so f*cking arrogant. I really, really disliked him.” She recounted a specific incident where she felt he intentionally undermined her. “He comes in and says, ‘Cher, where do you think we should film this scene?’ And I say, well, the kitchen is working pretty well, why don’t we do that again? The next morning he arrives on set, eating an egg sandwich, and starts screaming that he’s not going to let me direct this film; I’m a nobody; he can cut me out at any moment. Oh yeah, he was a pig.” This behavior mirrors that of Frank Oz, who is famously known for voicing Miss Piggy for over 25 years.

Known for her straightforward nature, Cher shows no signs of holding back as she approaches her 80s. With little to lose at this stage of her life, she unapologetically calls out those who have wronged her, declaring that they’ll get a firm reminder to “snap out of it!” This boldness extends beyond the film industry; she has also criticized the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for their delayed recognition of her contributions to music.
