The storyline of Clown in a Cornfield revolves around Quinn and her father, who relocate to the seemingly tranquil town of Kettle Springs, seeking a new beginning. However, their hopes are dashed as they encounter a community fractured by hardship following the devastating fire that consumed the beloved Baypen Corn Syrup Factory. As the townsfolk engage in bitter disputes and simmering tensions rise, a malevolent figure, known as Frendo the Clown, emerges from the cornfields, determined to rid the community of its troubles?one gruesome victim at a time. Welcome to Kettle Springs, where the real terror begins when Frendo decides to join the party. The screenplay was co-written by Eli Craig and Carter Blanchard.
The cast features a talented lineup including Katie Douglas from Ginny & Georgia, Carson MacCormac of Shazam!, Aaron Abrams known for Hannibal, Will Sasso from The Three Stooges, and Kevin Durand from Abigail. Their performances are sure to elevate the horror experience as they navigate the terrifying events in Kettle Springs.
Produced by Temple Hill Entertainment, with key figures like Marty Bowen, Wyck Godfrey, Isaac Klausner, and John Fischer at the helm, alongside Paris Kassidokostas-Latsis and Terry Dougas of Rhea Films, this project boasts a strong production team. The executive producers include Carter Blanchard, Jean-Luc De Fanti, Max Work, and Kostas Tsoukalas from Rhea Films, Petersen Harris and George Berman from Temple Hill, Dave Bishop and George Hamilton from Protagonist Pictures, Daniel Bekerman of Scythia Films Inc., and Myron John Tataryn from Thundersnow Pictures. This film is a joint production of Rhea Films and Temple Hill, financed by Hercules Film Fund.
Upon the announcement of the distribution deal, Eli Craig expressed his enthusiasm, stating, ?I?m thrilled to partner with RLJE Films and Shudder to release this insanely fun action, horror, comedy where we always wanted it to be seen ? in theaters! As always in my movies, there?s a deeper theme about the collision of perspectives and ideals that leads to utter mayhem. It was fun in this one, however, to let the horror thrills take the lead, while the comedic absurdity that I can?t help but see in life brings a bit of levity.?
If Clown in a Cornfield proves to be a hit, there is significant potential for a franchise to develop. Adam Cesare has already penned two sequels, Clown in a Cornfield II: Frendo Lives and Clown in a Cornfield III: The Church of Frendo, ensuring that fans will have more chilling adventures to look forward to.
