Deadbeat Dad Claims: Barry Keoghan Explains His Social Media Stance

Barry Keoghan Addresses “Deadbeat Dad” Allegations and Shares His Perspective on Fatherhood

The 31-year-old star of Saltburn, Barry Keoghan, has recently found himself in the spotlight, responding to accusations labeling him a “deadbeat dad.” This controversy erupted following his candid remarks about his experiences with fatherhood during an episode of The Louis Theroux Podcast. On the podcast, he was confronted with the negative portrayals that have emerged regarding his parenting, prompting an insightful discussion about his journey as a father and the challenges he faces in the public eye.

In his response, Barry elaborated on the reasons behind his limited social media presence concerning his role as a father. He emphasized the need for privacy and the complexities of sharing personal experiences online, particularly when it comes to his child. He stated, “Keep reading to find out more…”

“There’s a lot online. If I didn’t have tough skin or the strength to handle it, I wouldn’t be sitting here,” Barry remarked. He acknowledged that his challenging childhood has undoubtedly influenced his parenting style, particularly since he did not have a conventional blueprint to follow. Many people misinterpret his struggles as laziness, dismissing his efforts to be a present father. “I’m not an absent father,” he asserted, expressing frustration with how his son is often used as a tool for criticism by others.

Continuing his thought, Barry shared, “The more attention I’ve received lately and the more public I’ve become, the less I’ve felt inclined to post about my child. I don’t think it’s fair to expose my child to online scrutiny.” He lamented that this choice has led some to label him as a “deadbeat dad” and other derogatory terms that he finds utterly appalling. “Just the audacity of some people, man. It sickens me, makes me furious,” he added, highlighting the emotional toll these accusations take on him.

When the podcast host suggested that Barry should stop reading social media comments, the actor explained why he occasionally finds himself drawn to them. He expressed, “When I’ve got a bit of time, I am a curious being like all of us. You want to know what people are saying online, especially when it’s slanderous or directly attacking my appearance or my role as a father.” He mentioned that he has even taken steps to shield himself from negativity by blocking certain words, as he believes that discussions involving his son should remain off-limits. “I’m just trying to make a living, create a solid body of work, and ensure safety for my child,” he concluded.

Barry shares his son with ex-partner Alyson Sandro, and he has previously opened up about their co-parenting relationship in interviews, shedding light on the dynamics of their family life.
