When it comes to cinematic legends, Denzel Washington stands tall! While many of his films are celebrated, some of his earlier works from the ’90s may not have hit the mark. Denzel?s rise to fame began in the 1980s, and he quickly became a trailblazer for Black actors, eventually winning an Academy Award. Before he made history as the first Black actor to win two Oscars, Denzel faced numerous challenges and subpar roles. Although he may downplay his experiences, Denzel’s journey reflects the struggles and triumphs of a dedicated actor.

In a revealing conversation with The Times, Denzel Washington openly acknowledged that a significant portion of his filmography in the ’90s was motivated by financial gain. He remarked, ?After Malcolm X I made some real clunkers. Look them up ? I won?t say their names? They are all in the 1990s. But I was earning. I had responsibilities.? While he may be hesitant to disclose specific films, one can speculate that titles like The Pelican Brief, Virtuosity, Fallen, and The Bone Collector might be on that list.

Denzel Washington is known for his dedication to his craft, but it?s essential to recognize that, in Hollywood, financial considerations often play a significant role in an actor’s choices. Denzel himself stated, ?In life, you learn, earn and then you return ? as in give back. So if your life is 90 years long, up until 30 you learn and from 30 to 60 you earn. So in that era I was earning. With a great agent, my career built into making money and so the earning kicked in and then life also kicked in, with bills, four kids and a house ?? This perspective sheds light on the intricate balance between passion and financial necessity in the entertainment industry.

These films not only highlight his acting prowess but also contributed to his enduring legacy in cinema.

Regardless of how Denzel Washington evaluates certain chapters of his career, he is currently focusing on the present and future of his filmography. He has hinted at retirement after completing a select few projects, which are highly anticipated. Upcoming collaborations include Spike Lee?s remake of High and Low, a project with acclaimed director Steve McQueen, and a rumored role in a third Black Panther film, specifically written for him by director Ryan Coogler.
