Jimmy Smits Returns as ADA Miguel Prado in Dexter: Resurrection Alongside John Lithgow
According to a report from Deadline, both John Lithgow and Jimmy Smits are set to reprise their memorable characters from the original Dexter series in Dexter: Resurrection. Smits’ character, Miguel Prado, was introduced in Season 3 of Dexter and served as one of the season’s primary antagonists, sharing the spotlight with Jesse Borrego’s character, George King. Meanwhile, Lithgow‘s portrayal of Arthur Mitchell, the infamous Trinity Killer, was pivotal as he emerged as the main antagonist in the fourth season, leaving a lasting impact on the series.
Interestingly, both characters are believed to be deceased within the main timeline of the original Dexter narrative. The exact role of Prado in Resurrection remains a mystery, but there’s speculation that his character may delve into the dark and tumultuous past of Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Morgan, potentially unveiling new layers to the story.
Regarding Arthur Mitchell, Lithgow recently hinted at his involvement, suggesting a cameo appearance in Resurrection. “I just went back to do a day,” the acclaimed 79-year-old actor shared with Variety. “They’re rebooting the entire Michael C. Hall version of Dexter. And it turns out he didn’t die after all. I come back sort of as a phantom, as he gradually comes to life on a hospital bed,” he elaborated, intriguing fans with these revelations.
Additionally, there are reports of a prequel spin-off series in the works, focusing on a younger version of the Trinity Killer. The appearance of Mitchell in Resurrection could potentially pave the way for this new narrative, creating further interest and speculation among fans.
Beyond the original series, Arthur Mitchell was briefly featured in flashback sequences of the limited series Dexter: New Blood. Meanwhile, a younger rendition of Miguel Prado, played by Nick Santucci, made an appearance in the second spin-off titled Dexter: Original Sin.
Dexter originally aired on Showtime for a gripping eight-season run from October 1, 2006, to September 22, 2013. The ten episodes of New Blood were released between November 7, 2021, and January 9, 2022. The series Original Sin premiered on Paramount+ with Showtime in December 2024, featuring another ten episodes.
