The Electric State, Russo Brothers, Mr. Peanut

Before rejoining the Marvel universe for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, acclaimed directors Joe and Anthony Russo are set to release The Electric State. This film, adapted from Simon St?lenhag’s illustrated novel, is set in a captivating alternate reality reminiscent of the 1990s. In this universe, sentient robots, who once coexisted harmoniously with humans, have found themselves exiled following a failed rebellion. The storyline promises a visually stunning experience that explores themes of coexistence, technology, and the consequences of conflict.

?The robots in this alternate universe originated from Walt Disney’s creations ? the animatronics from Disneyland. These characters gained awareness and were integrated into various roles as worker bots, service bots, and marketing bots,? Joe shared during an interview with Entertainment Weekly. ?They retained their Disney-like charm, making them appealing and non-threatening to humans. This leads to a fascinating array of complex, cartoonish robots embarking on their own journeys of self-discovery and adventure.?

The film The Electric State introduces a host of intriguing robotic characters, including the notable Mr. Peanut, who played a leadership role during the robots? unsuccessful revolt. ?Mr. Peanut embodies the qualities of Atticus Finch or Jimmy Carter among the robots,? Joe elaborated. ?He is exceptionally intelligent, progressive, and deeply empathetic. Now, he has secluded himself in a region known as the Exclusion Zone, a place where the remaining robots were confined following the aftermath of the war. This vast area spans several hundred square miles across the American Southwest and serves as a large-scale prison for the surviving robots.?

Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things) stars as Michelle, an orphaned teenager navigating a society where sentient robots, resembling cartoon characters and mascots, once lived in harmony with humans but now face exile after a failed uprising. One fateful night, Michelle’s world is turned upside down when she encounters Cosmo, a charming yet enigmatic robot seemingly linked to her genius younger brother Christopher, whom she believed to be dead. Determined to reunite with her brother, Michelle embarks on a perilous journey across the American Southwest with Cosmo. Along the way, she reluctantly partners with Keats (Chris Pratt, Guardians of the Galaxy), a down-on-his-luck smuggler, and his witty robot companion, Herman (voiced by Anthony Mackie). As they venture into the Exclusion Zone, a desolate area where robots exist independently, Keats and Michelle discover a vibrant array of new animatronic allies while uncovering the dark forces behind Christopher’s mysterious disappearance.?
