The castle of Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) is teetering on the brink of destruction in Episodes 5 and 6 of Daredevil: Born Again. As we approach the midpoint of the series, it has become abundantly clear that the show is unflinching when it comes to character casualties, which leads Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) to ponder if his newly adopted methods of seeking justice are, in fact, causing more harm than good. Matt is not alone in his self-reflection; Fisk is also grappling with challenges as the Mayor of New York City. His difficulties range from conflicts with the bureaucratic system to dealing with a disintegrating marriage, placing him on the edge of fully embracing his sinister persona as Kingpin.
Continuing from where Netflix’s 2015 Daredevil concluded, Daredevil: Born Again marks the much-anticipated return of the Punisher, Frank Castle (Jon Bernthal). Their violent reunion compels Matt to reevaluate his less-than-stellar journey as a lawyer. With an increasing number of villains emerging in Hell’s Kitchen, Matt faces a pressing decision. Without further delay, here’s what viewers can anticipate in Episodes 5-6 of Daredevil: Born Again.

Unraveling the Key Events of Episode 4 in ‘Daredevil: Born Again’
In Episode 4 of Daredevil: Born Again, the narrative picks up swiftly after the shocking murder of Hector Ayala (Kamar de los Reyes). While Matt (Cox) is yet to uncover that the killer bore the Punisher’s emblem, he attends Ayala’s autopsy. During this visit, he encounters Hector’s heartbroken niece, Angela del Toro (Camila Rodriguez), who is convinced that corrupt NYPD officers are responsible for her uncle’s untimely demise. Although Matt attempts to provide comfort, he becomes increasingly disillusioned with the justice system. Meanwhile, he is also presented with a new case involving a repeat offender, Leroy (Charlie Hudson), who is seeking parole. Given the injustices prevalent in the system, Matt is compelled to reconsider donning the Daredevil suit once more.
Simultaneously, Wilson Fisk (D’Onofrio) struggles to maintain authority over both his personal and professional realms. His ambitions to redevelop the corrupt Red Hook area encounter significant delays due to bureaucratic hurdles. Additionally, Fisk’s reputation is jeopardized, largely due to his protégé Daniel Blake (Michael Gandolfini), who drunkenly leaked the redevelopment plan to the press, painting Fisk as a union-busting politician. His marriage with Vanessa (Ayelet Zurer) is unraveling as she discovers his infidelity, leading Fisk to adopt more violent tactics against her lover. With pressure mounting from all sides, it is only a matter of time before Kingpin unleashes his wrath upon the city.
As the episode progresses, another beloved vigilante reappears. When Matt discovers a bullet casing marked with the Punisher’s insignia, he eventually tracks down Frank Castle (Bernthal). Their intense confrontation forces Matt to reassess his own journey—will he continue to abide by the flawed judicial system or revert to his original role as a righteous vigilante? Time is of the essence, especially with a new villain, a serial killer known as Muse, entering the fray in Hell’s Kitchen. This new threat has a penchant for using blood as paint, adding layers of horror to the already tense atmosphere.
Understanding the Plot of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’
Here’s the official synopsis for Daredevil: Born Again:
“In Marvel Television’s “Daredevil: Born Again,” Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox), a blind lawyer with heightened abilities, fights for justice through his thriving law firm, while former mob boss Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) pursues his political aspirations in New York. As their past identities begin to resurface, both men find themselves on an unavoidable collision course. The series also features Margarita Levieva, Deborah Ann Woll, Elden Henson, Zabryna Guevara, Nikki James, Genneya Walton, Arty Froushan, Clark Johnson, Michael Gandolfini, alongside Ayelet Zurer and Jon Bernthal. Dario Scardapane serves as the showrunner. Episodes are directed by Justin Benson & Aaron Moorhead, Michael Cuesta, Jeffrey Nachmanoff, and David Boyd; with executive producers Kevin Feige, Louis D’Esposito, Brad Winderbaum, Sana Amanat, Chris Gary, Dario Scardapane, Christopher Ord, Matthew Corman, Justin Benson, and Aaron Moorhead.”
While Daredevil: Born Again shares similarities with the original Daredevil series, this fresh interpretation introduces new tonal shifts that resonate with Matt’s evolving world. Although the core essence of the Daredevil character remains intact, he undergoes changes shaped by his life’s experiences. While he may not entirely transform into a different persona, Matt’s perspectives are undoubtedly altered, especially given the extensive crime and injustice he has confronted throughout the years.

Essential Marvel Shows to Watch Before ‘Daredevil: Born Again’
Marvel’s ‘Daredevil’ (2015-2018): A Must-Watch for Fans
It’s essential to revisit the origins of Netflix’s Daredevil. During the day, Matt Murdock (Cox) serves as a lawyer, a remarkable feat considering his blindness since childhood. What he lacks in sight, he compensates with heightened senses that reach extraordinary levels. When night falls and the courtrooms close, Matt sheds his formal attire to become Daredevil, a vigilante dedicated to combating crime. In his alter ego, he confronts the most dangerous criminals in Hell’s Kitchen. This series set a precedent for darker, more intense Marvel adaptations, proving that redemption is not meant for the morally bankrupt.

Marvel’s ‘The Defenders’ (2017): A Team of Heroes Unite
Beyond the Avengers, the Defenders exist. While they may lack the iconic recognition of “Earth’s mightiest heroes,” their collective power is more than sufficient to confront the globe’s greatest threats. The storyline unfolds after the events of Daredevil Season 2, featuring Daredevil himself (Murdock), Jessica Jones (Krysten Ritter), Luke Cage (Mike Colter), and Iron Fist (Finn Jones). For viewers familiar with each character’s individual Marvel shows, it’s clear that these heroes are far from perfect. Each grapples with their own trauma and emotional burdens. However, when united, they become much stronger than they realize. As they confront a common enemy, The Hand, the fate of New York City and the world hangs in the balance.
