It has been over two decades since the iconic band Evanescence burst onto the mainstream music scene with their groundbreaking album Fallen, released in 2003. This critically acclaimed record not only produced hit singles like “Bring Me to Life” and “My Immortal,” but it also achieved remarkable commercial success, selling over four million copies worldwide and earning two Grammy Awards. This era marked a significant moment in music history, as the band carved out a unique space for themselves in the rock genre.
For the talented vocalist Amy Lee, the journey has been incredibly fulfilling, as she witnesses their music resonate with audiences across different generations. This experience parallels her own journey of discovering classic rock music during her formative years. Reflecting on the early days of the band, she recalls a time filled with “urgent anxiety” and a collective hope to navigate the challenges of the music industry. “To have persevered through that period, creating more music, releasing additional albums, traveling the globe, meeting diverse fans, and evolving both personally and musically has been enriching,” she shares with the UCR Podcast. “Today, when we create new music, it feels profoundly impactful.”
“When we hit the road to perform, I feel empowered to present our new material,” she adds. “We are thrilled to share something fresh that excites us deeply, while still embracing our roots as the ‘Bring Me to Life’ band. We honor our nostalgic journey with our fans, blending the old with the new. This phase is liberating; there’s no longer any fear holding us back. We’ve accomplished so much, and now, creating music is purely enjoyable and meaningful,” she states.

Latest Updates: What Is Evanescence Working On Now?
Following several fruitful years of touring in support of their 2021 album The Bitter Truth, Amy Lee and her bandmates are diligently crafting new songs with the acclaimed producer Nick Raskulinecz. Known for his work with legendary bands like Rush, Alice in Chains, and Foo Fighters, Raskulinecz has established a valuable partnership with the band, contributing significantly to their creative process. “A great producer embodies many roles,” Lee explains. “He acts as a coach, a counselor, and ultimately, a genuine friend. Nick’s multifaceted musical skills enhance his production capabilities, allowing him to pinpoint areas for improvement and suggest enhancements with clarity. He can articulate his vision through musical examples, which encourages us to explore new directions and delve deeper into our songs. His hands-on approach truly enriches our collaborative efforts.”
Although the forthcoming album won’t include their latest track, fans can enjoy a glimpse of the band’s current sound through the newly released song “Afterlife.” This track features on the soundtrack for Devil May Cry, a Netflix animated series inspired by the popular Capcom video game franchise. The song possesses a mystical quality that will resonate with both devoted Evanescence fans and those who appreciate the hauntingly beautiful music from the ’90s in popular culture, reminiscent of shows like The X-Files, Charmed, and The Craft.
A happy coincidence led to the creation of “Afterlife,” as Lee recounts. While the band was already in the midst of their creative process for the new album, Netflix reached out with an invitation to collaborate with Alex Seaver, who had initiated work on a song for the series. “The concept sounded incredibly promising,” she reflects. “What began as a simple invitation evolved into something greater. It turned into a collaboration that we are all thrilled about, and it feels fantastic to release new music.”
