Final Iron Maiden Concert: Nicko McBrain’s Last Performance

The legendary drummer Nicko McBrain is set to perform his final concert with the iconic heavy metal band Iron Maiden.

After a remarkable journey spanning over four decades, McBrain, who bravely overcame a stroke in January 2023, has made the heartfelt announcement on the band’s official website. He stated, “After much consideration, it is with both sorrow and joy that I announce my decision to step back from the demands of the extensive touring lifestyle. Today, Saturday, December 7th, in Sao Paulo, will mark my last performance with Iron Maiden. I extend my best wishes to the band for their future endeavors.”

Joining Iron Maiden in 1982, McBrain made his debut on the band’s acclaimed 1983 album Piece of Mind. Following his stroke announcement, he revealed his ongoing struggles with certain complex tracks, admitting, “I unfortunately haven’t been able to give you all 100% of my performance.” His candor highlights the challenges faced by musicians, especially those in high-pressure environments.

By July 2024, McBrain shared insights into the unwavering support he received from his bandmates, who graciously adjusted their set lists to accommodate his needs. He noted, “It ain?t the old Nicko ? it?s not the old one by a long shot. But at least it’s part of me. My band, bless their hearts, including Steve Harris and the rest of the guys, have said, ?If you can?t do something in a song, we just won?t do that song.?? This camaraderie exemplifies the deep bonds forged in the world of music.

In his heartfelt statement, McBrain emphasized his intention to “remain firmly part of the Iron Maiden family” while also pursuing various projects and business ventures. He reflected on his incredible journey with the band over the last 42 years, saying, “To my bandmates, you made it a dream come true and I love you! I look to the future with great excitement and hope! I?ll see you soon, may God bless you all, and, of course, ‘Up the Irons!’” This sentiment captures the spirit of loyalty and passion that defines Iron Maiden.

The band’s manager, Rod Smallwood, expressed his gratitude on behalf of Iron Maiden, stating, “Thank you for being an irrepressible force behind the drum kit for Maiden for 42 years and my friend for even longer. I speak on behalf of all the band when I say we will miss you immensely! We all have countless cherished memories from the past 42 years, incredible gigs, numerous platinum and gold albums, and, of course, one beer too many on many occasions! Such bonds are eternal! As Steve Harris says, ?Nicko is and will always be part of the Maiden family.??

Tonight’s performance signifies the close of Iron Maiden’s 2024 The Future Past tour. The band plans to hit the road again in May 2025 for the highly anticipated Run For Your Lives tour. Their announcement also hinted at a new drummer already being lined up, stating, “Maiden always get their man, and our already chosen new drummer will be revealed very soon.”
