In February 2025, the infamous Fyre Festival promoter Billy McFarland made a bold announcement regarding the launch of Fyre Fest 2. This revelation led to two cities in Mexico, Isla Mujeres near Cancun and Playa del Carmen, swiftly denying any affiliation with the event. Nevertheless, McFarland remains adamant that Fyre Fest 2 is indeed moving forward, presenting a timeline of events to substantiate his claims.
Key Statements from Billy McFarland About Fyre Fest 2
On Friday, April 4, McFarland utilized both his personal Instagram profile and the official Fyre Festival Instagram account to reiterate that the festival is set to take place in Playa Del Carmen. This location was chosen after Isla Mujeres publicly denied any involvement with the festival.
In his post, McFarland shared photographs that illustrate the progress made thus far, asserting that he “has been collaborating closely with the government of Playa del Carmen (PDC) and their officials since March 5, 2025, to ensure a secure and successful event.”
He emphasized:
All media reports suggesting our team has not been cooperating with the PDC government are fundamentally inaccurate and rooted in misinformation.
FYRE has maintained a positive partnership with the PDC government and has adhered to all necessary processes and procedures to lawfully host this event.
We will be releasing all pertinent permits, payments, and communications.

The Background and Context of Fyre Festival’s Troubling History
Considering that the original Fyre Festival in 2017 was marred by catastrophic failures—promising concerts that never materialized and subjecting attendees to subpar accommodations, inadequate catering, and a complete lack of infrastructure—it’s no surprise that skepticism surrounds Fyre Fest 2. Following the disastrous first event, McFarland faced numerous lawsuits and criminal charges due to the shocking mismanagement and deceptive practices associated with the initial festival.
Despite this rocky background, as noted by Loudwire earlier this year, Fyre Fest 2 was initially slated to occur from May 30 through June 2 in Isla Mujeres near Cancun, Mexico.
Ticket prices begin at $1,400 for the “Ignite level,” which only grants access to the festival grounds, with options available for additional accommodations and activities. For those seeking more exclusive access, tickets can reach up to $25,000, which includes “artist passes, backstage access, and hotel accommodations.” Additionally, there is a premium $1 million package designed for eight individuals, which includes [s] luxury villas, docking facilities for yachts, private jet transport to Cancun, and more.
At the time, McFarland candidly admitted: “Many may think I’m insane for attempting this again. However, I believe it would be foolish not to try.”
However, on March 4, Loudwire reported that the Generate Directorate of Tourism of Isla Mujeres posted on Facebook, asserting that “no individual or company has requested permits from this office or any other Municipal Government department for [Fyre Fest 2].” In fact, tourism director Edgar Gasca informed The Guardian: “We have no knowledge of this event, nor any contact with any individual or company regarding it. For us, this is an event that does not exist.”
In response, McFarland and other producers of Fyre Fest 2 issued a statement a few days later, insisting that the event is “real” and addressing multiple concerns about it. “[W] We have exceptional partners leading the festival… There is no way they would ever endorse a fraudulent festival,” McFarland asserted in a detailed video response.
Following a period of silence, on March 28, McFarland conducted a press conference at the Martina Beach Club to announce that Playa Del Carmen will host Fyre Fest 2. “While our relationships with Playa are new, I can confidently say we couldn’t ask for a better group of partners,” he declared at the event. The conference was segmented into three parts and can be viewed sequentially on Instagram here, here, and here.
Days later, McFarland shared another video on social media where he promised:
We will feature DJs, rappers, reggae artists, pop stars, and even athletes, divers, models, pilots, and creators who will facilitate unique experiences for our guests. Fyre is all about creating intimate experiences. We will host numerous artists in a private, party-like atmosphere. Fyre is centered on the people you’ll meet, the memories you’ll create, and the unforgettable stories you’ll carry for the rest of your life.
However, as reported by Loudwire on April 4, Playa Del Carmen released an official statement on X that, when translated, states: “#ComunicadoOficial || There will be no event called ‘Fyre 2’ in Playa del Carmen. There is no record or planning. This government prioritizes order, security, and truth.”
A more extensive decree elaborated: “No such event with that name will occur in our city… There is no record or plans that would suggest such an event is happening in this municipality.”
Thus, the situation remains dynamic, and it will be intriguing to observe how Playa Del Carmen reacts to McFarland’s latest timeline and claims regarding the legitimacy of Fyre Fest 2.
