The latest single follows their previous successful collaboration, “Crack Cocaine,” and boasts a powerful score created by Cinderella drummer Fred Coury. The song is brought to life by the majestic sounds of the 61-piece Budapest Scoring Orchestra and the harmonious voices of the John Burroughs High School choir. Adding to the excitement, Morrison’s bandmate and Idol guitarist Steve Stevens delivers a breathtaking guitar solo that elevates the track to new heights.
“Gods of Rock N Roll” has a rich history, first making its debut as “Gods” on Morrison’s 2015 album God Shaped Hole. This revamped version will feature on the deluxe digital edition of Morrison’s highly anticipated 2024 album The Morrison Project, set to release next week. “Ozzy and I have infused new energy into what we always believed was a monumental song,” Morrison stated in a press release. He elaborated that “Gods of Rock N Roll” was initially penned a decade ago in a hotel room during their travels in South America. With this re-recording, both artists feel they have finally transformed the song into what it was always meant to be?an enormous, emotionally charged ballad that resonates deeply with listeners.
In a conversation with Kerrang!, Osbourne reflected on the collaboration, stating, “Billy and I crafted ‘Gods of Rock N Roll’ together in a hotel room while I was touring in South America around ten years ago. This re-recorded version of the song now has the full orchestral arrangement and choir I envisioned. I insisted it needed an orchestra and choir back then, but it took ten long years for him to finally take my advice.”
As fans eagerly anticipate new music, Osbourne is also gearing up for a monumental event: his final concert, where he will reunite with the original lineup of Black Sabbath for the star-studded Back to the Beginning show on July 5 at Birmingham, England’s Villa Park.
