In the highly anticipated series Government Cheese, David Oyelowo takes center stage in this surrealist family comedy that Apple TV+ is gearing up to release. The streaming platform has recently unveiled a selection of first-look images, showcasing the vibrant world of the ten-episode series. Mark your calendars for April 16, 2025, when the first four episodes will be available for global audiences, followed by a weekly release of new episodes until May 28, 2025.

This captivating series is a brainchild of creators Paul Hunter and Aeysha Carr, featuring a stellar cast that includes Simone Missick, Jahi Di’Allo Winston, and Evan Ellison, all joining Oyelowo, who also serves as an executive producer. Set against the backdrop of the San Fernando Valley in 1969, Government Cheese tells the enchanting story of the Chambers family, who are portrayed as a quirky unit chasing their seemingly unattainable dreams. The narrative takes a dramatic turn when Hampton Chambers, played by Oyelowo, returns home after incarceration, only to disrupt the unconventional family dynamic that has formed in his absence, leading to chaos and heartfelt moments.

The supporting cast is equally impressive, featuring talents like Bokeem Woodbine from Fargo, Jeremy Bobb known for The Continental, and Louis Cancelmi, who appeared in The Irishman. Additional cast members include Julien Heron from Baskets, Djilali Rez-Kallah from My Hero, and Louis Ferreira from Stargate Universe. The ensemble also boasts Thomas Beaudoin from Hubert & Fanny, Kyle Mac from The Boys, along with John Ortiz from Bad Monkey and Adam Beach from Smoke Signals.

In recent years, David Oyelowo has showcased his versatility in several major television series, including the critically acclaimed Lawmen: Bass Reeves, where he portrays the legendary lawman, charting Reeves’ journey from enslavement to becoming the first Black U.S. Marshal west of the Mississippi. Furthermore, Oyelowo stars alongside Rebecca Ferguson, Tim Robbins, and Rashida Jones in the sci-fi thriller Silo, adapted from Hugh Howey’s popular trilogy. This gripping series follows the last ten thousand inhabitants of Earth as they live in a mile-deep shelter, unaware of the reasons for its existence and the dangers outside.
