Hallowarrior Features Milly Shapiro and Shannyn Sossamon
Experience the chilling performances of Milly Shapiro, Shannyn Sossamon, Ajani Russell, and AJ Bowen in the gripping post-apocalyptic horror thriller, The Hallowarrior.
The production of the highly anticipated post-apocalyptic horror thriller, The Hallowarrior, has officially wrapped, and Variety has revealed an exclusive first-look image showcasing Milly Shapiro’s lead character. Fans of the horror genre will recognize Shapiro from her standout role in the critically acclaimed 2018 film Hereditary and her recent performance in the Peacock series Hysteria!. If you haven’t yet seen Hysteria!, I highly recommend giving it a watch as it showcases her exceptional talent.
Marking the feature film debut of writer and director Ben Sottak, The Hallowarrior draws inspiration from Sottak’s proof of concept short film Scavenger. The film features a talented cast that includes Shannyn Sossamon, known for her role in A Knight’s Tale, alongside Ajani Russell from the series Betty, and AJ Bowen, recognized for his performance in You’re Next.
The gripping story crafted by Sottak revolves around Pumpkin (played by Shapiro), who is portrayed as the last remaining human on earth following a devastating plague that wipes out humanity. As Halloween approaches, Pumpkin scavenges the desolate wasteland for essentials. Her solitary holiday tradition is abruptly disrupted by a ruthless gang of raiders, led by the formidable Thalia (Sossamon). Armed with nothing but candy, creativity, and a fierce determination, Pumpkin must engage in a desperate fight for survival against overwhelming odds.
In a statement, Sottak expressed his excitement about the film, saying: “This film is a tribute to the crowd-pleasing genre films that shaped my childhood every Halloween. It’s infused with a nostalgic autumn atmosphere, exhilarating kills, and features a lovable ‘final girl’ portrayed by the incredibly talented Milly Shapiro. I eagerly anticipate this film becoming a staple in horror fans’ annual October viewing traditions for many years to come.“
Alongside Sottak, Emmajane Hoffman is producing the film, marking the launch of their new production company, Strange Aeons. The production team also includes Gabriel Rosenstein from The Spitting Image, as well as Danielle Benedict and Jake Casey from The Dazey Phase. Executive production is handled by Alec Ring from Cinetic, along with Sossamon.
With its intriguing premise and talented cast, The Hallowarrior promises to deliver an unforgettable viewing experience, and I personally cannot wait to see how the film unfolds, with high hopes that it will become a cherished addition to my October horror lineup.
