HGTV icon Ty Pennington has finally addressed the buzz surrounding his absence from the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition reboot. As the original host of the beloved series, which aired from 2004 to 2012, many fans were taken aback when the new cast featured Clea Shearer and Joana Teplin in leading roles. Despite the surprise, it appears that Pennington is coming to terms with the change, at least according to his recent social media posts.
The Rock the Block host made a lighthearted statement on Instagram to address the speculation about his departure from the reboot. In a humorous video, Pennington lip-synced to a well-known clip featuring David Schwimmer from Friends, where he exclaims: “I’m fine! Totally fine! I don’t know why it’s coming out all loud and squeaky, ’cause really… I’m fine!” The playful caption suggested that this was Pennington’s typical response to inquiries about his absence from the show.
While Pennington attempted to infuse humor into the conversation, numerous fans and fellow television personalities expressed their disappointment regarding his absence. No Demo Reno host Jenn Todryk voiced her feelings in the comments, indicating her dissatisfaction with his non-involvement. Meanwhile, Veronica Valencia from Revealed poignantly remarked, “You will forever and always be EXTREME to me.” Many fans echoed these sentiments, claiming that there is no Extreme Makeover: Home Edition without Pennington, with one comment reflecting that, “Nobody else can make me cry like you did every Sunday night.”
Clea Shearer’s Children Played a Vital Role in Supporting Her During Breast Cancer Treatment
Clea Shearer has bravely shared her journey through chemotherapy, radiation, and a total of eight surgeries following her breast cancer diagnosis in 2022. In a heartfelt interview with Parents Magazine, the co-founder of The Home Edit revealed that while she is no longer undergoing active treatment, she will still be regarded as a cancer patient for the next decade and will continue with ongoing care. This lengthy and challenging process has reshaped her perspective on life and health.
According to Shearer, her health challenges significantly impacted her children, Stella, 13, and Sutton, 10. They witnessed firsthand the struggles their mother faced, which was undoubtedly daunting for them. Nonetheless, Shearer noted that this experience helped her children mature in ways she had not anticipated. She expressed her gratitude by saying, “They’ve been my rock. I can’t believe how mature, connected, and grounded they’ve been throughout this ordeal.”
In an emotional moment, Shearer recounted a recent school assignment where her daughter chose to write about her as a hero. The reality star was moved to tears when Stella delivered her speech in front of classmates and teachers. She shared how her daughter frequently reassured her, emphasizing that she doesn’t need to wear a wig after chemo, showing remarkable confidence and support. According to Shearer, Stella was unfazed by others’ opinions, demonstrating a profound understanding of beauty and self-acceptance. The reboot of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition premiered on January 2, 2025, with new episodes airing every Thursday.
