IMAX Release Date Announced for John & Yoko Documentary

One to One: John & Yoko, the highly anticipated documentary directed by Kevin Macdonald, delves deep into an incredibly significant 18-month period for one of rock history’s most iconic couples. This cinematic journey will premiere exclusively in IMAX on April 11, followed by airing on HBO and streaming on Max in late 2025, as reported by Deadline. This release promises to offer a fresh perspective on John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s lives during a transformative time in their careers and personal lives.

Magnolia Pictures has successfully secured the North American distribution rights to this captivating film, which revisits the vibrant years that Lennon and Ono spent in New York’s Greenwich Village from 1971 to 1973. The documentary showcases never-before-seen footage and newly restored clips of Lennon’s historic performance on August 30, 1972, at Madison Square Garden, which was part of the One to One benefit concert. This concert represented Lennon’s final full-length performance, and recordings from that day later contributed to the posthumously released 1986 album Live in New York City. Notably, the couple’s son, Sean Ono Lennon, played a pivotal role in the audio remastering of the concert for this film, ensuring that the legacy of this event is preserved for future generations.

The One to One benefit concert, which also featured renowned artists like Stevie Wonder and Roberta Flack, aimed to raise vital funds for residents of Staten Island’s Willowbrook State School, a facility for children with intellectual disabilities. John Lennon and Yoko Ono were motivated to get involved after Geraldo Rivera’s shocking exposé highlighted the appalling and abusive conditions within the school, sparking a movement to bring attention to the plight of these children and improve their circumstances.

“I am personally thrilled to be collaborating again with the Magnolia and HBO teams to finally present One to One: John & Yoko with the ambitious theatrical release it truly deserves,” expressed Macdonald, who is well-known for his award-winning works such as the 1999 Oscar-winning film One Day in September, 2012’s Marley, and 2018’s Whitney. “This film encapsulates themes of music, love, and political activism while immersing viewers in the culturally rich atmosphere of 1972, a time that resonates eerily with the challenges we face in today’s world. Above all, I am immensely grateful to Sean Lennon and Mercury Studios for trusting me with the remarkable One to One concert footage.”

The announcement of One to One’s theatrical release coincides with the North American premiere of Midas Man, the biographical film about the late Beatles manager Brian Epstein. This engaging biopic, featuring Jacob Fortune-Lloyd in the role of Epstein, will be available directly to consumers through Olyn, allowing fans to explore the life of one of music’s most influential figures.
